Matteo Casciani:
I placed the cooked eggs onto the plate, next to the sausages, bacon, and toasts. After turning off the stovetop, I walked over to Aiden who was sitting on the kitchen island, watching over me.
"Here," I said as I handed him the plate.
"It looks good, but I already ate," Aiden said, patting his stomach. He, then, wince. Aiden must have accidentally touched his wound.
When we found them both, Lorenzo took care of Aiden. Before Kimberly, Lorenzo was kind of our doctor.
"Take it to Kimberly," I told him. I walked around the kitchen, opening drawers and cabinets in search for a fork and knife.
"No way," Aiden said, setting the plate down as he got off the table. "What if she breaks down again?"
We noticed that whenever Aiden walked into the room, she get into hysterical fits. We thought that it would go away, but it's been a few days now. The doctor said that Aiden triggers her memory that's leaving her traumatized.
Marcella walked into the room, smelling the air. Her nose brought her to the freshly cooked breakfast.
"Oo, food!" Marcella exclaimed as she reached out to grab a slice of toast.
I swatted her hand.
"Ow!" She yelped, clutching her hand after the retreat.
"That's for Kimberly," I told her.
"Oh." She said, moving to the fridge to find something to eat.
"I think I know why Kimberly is like this," Aiden said, thinking back to that day. "I'm not sure if this is already clear to you guys but whatever you thought happened before you found us is wrong."
"What do you mean?" Marcella asked the question I was also wondering as she took a bite out of an apple.
"Kimberly came into the garage with two guys." He explained as he played with his fingers. "I manage to take one down. The other guy got me in the gut. I couldn't do anything. It hurt like a bitch."
"Wait," I said, " You're telling me that you didn't take down that other guy."
"Yeah, it was all Kimberly." Aiden words confirmed my suspicion, but Marcella was left in the dark.
"What?" She asked.
"I stayed behind to watch over the cleaning group," I said, referring to the group that dealt with the dead bodies, " One guy was shot in the neck, Aiden's doing. The other was shot multiple times, got hit almost everywhere. Aiden is saying that he wasn't the one to do that damage because he was shot. It was-"
"Kimberly?" Marcella mouth open, giving us the unpleasant view of mushed apple. "She killed him?
"She was desperate," Aiden said, looking to the floor out of shame. "It's my fault."
"But she wouldn't, you know how she feels about taking a person's life."
"That's probably why she feels so traumatized." I sighed.
Kimberly Stratus:
There was a knock on the door.
"Come in," I answered.
Unexpectedly, Aiden walked in. Immediately, I turned away at the sight of him. Aiden was the reason to my recent breakdowns. I've been trying to get used to looking at him, but I can't help but remember that I was a murderer. I'm working extra hard because Aiden is my friend and I don't want him feeling insulted. I don't hold anything against him. I just have a hard time controlling myself.
"Did you sleep well?" Aiden asked. I could feel that he was at the side of the bed. His voice was soft, telling me that he was proceeding with caution. I exhaled and turned to him.
"Yes," I said, shakily, as I kept my view at his neck. I didn't trust myself to look directly at his face.
"I brought you breakfast that Matteo cooked," Aiden said, placing the plate on the small desk that loomed over the bed for me to eat.
"Thank you," I said, forcing down my panic. "It looks delicious."
I took this opportunity to look away from Aiden and to the breakfast. I focused hard on the plate design as I tried to control my breathing. In and out. In and out.
"I'm sorry." Aiden sincerely told me. I knew what he meant. He can't possibly think it's his fault. I was the one to pull the trigger.
"No.." I was about to say that it wasn't his fault, but I was at my breaking point. There's no way I can just ignore the fact that I killed someone. I, a doctor, took someone's life. Even if it was Emilio, who tortured me, but he was doing his job as a mafia member. What makes him so different than Matteo, Aiden, Lorenzo, Dante, Marcella, or Oriana?
Oh no, it's happening again. I closed my eyes, trying to find another way to cope.
"Matteo!" Aiden yelled as he ran out of the room.
Within seconds Matteo appeared at my side.
"Kimberly, calm down." He tried to soothe me.
"I c-can't," I cried, "I killed s-someone!"
"You did what you had to do." Matteo gripped my shoulders. "It's was either you and Aiden or him."
"But.."
"No, you have nothing to feel guilty about. I don't know what they did to you, but I know it was harmful, disgusting, and torturous. Think of it as revenge, if not maybe self-defense. What you did was right."
My breakdown had passed as Matteo spoke. The sternness in his voice made me feel somewhat safe. Instead of hugging me, he held my shoulders to help me stop shaking.
"Matteo..." I started.
"Yes?"
"Leave, please," I said, looking away from his eyes. "I want to be alone."
He was hesitant, but he listened. I watched him walk out of the door.
Once I was entirely alone, I laid back down on the bed, staring at the ceiling as I thought about what Matteo said. Was it okay to think about it like that? What if a time like that comes again, where I have to kill someone because I was in danger?
I spent the next few hours in silence arguing with myself about my next choices. With much thought, I finalized my decisions.
1. Recover.
I'll recover. If anything that's my number one priority as for right now.
2. Leave.
This will be a series of leaving. Leaving Italy to go back to the mafia house. Leaving mafia house to go back to my apartment.
In general, I need to leave Il Segreto.
