Kimberly Stratus:
A hand on my shoulder, shaking me, woke me up. The first thing that came into sight was the sun in the sky. I hissed at the pain and averted my eyes to a less painful, but just as hot, view of Matteo.
"Are you okay?" He asks as he retreated his hand off my shoulder.
I nodded my head, "Somewhat." I sat upright from my position to make room for Matteo.
He took the space next to me, making us dip closer to the ground due to our weight.
"Don't worry." He said, staring off to the small waterfall that was by the pool. "Stollo will pay for this. Once we get our hands on him, he'll be done for."
I bit my lip at his comment to make me feel better.
"No," I said, shaking my head.
"No?" Matteo looked at me to show his confusion. "What do you mean 'no'?"
"I mean I don't want to attack him," I said, revealing my thoughts. "Won't that just get him mad and this becomes a never-ending cycle?"
"We'll get him this time," He promised. "Don't you want to end things?"
"Yeah, I am finishing things," I told him. I deeply inhaled and exhaled to prepare myself for what could be coming next. "I'm stopping things be leaving."
"Leaving?" He asked, even more perplexed.
"The mafia." I nodded. "It's been more than three months, my confirmation to work again is probably in the mail back at home. I can go back to being a doctor and leave this crazy place."
A moment of silence fell between us as I anticipated his reply. I started to get scared as I watched his face turn from confusion into slight anger.
Matteo Casciani:
"The mafia," Kimberly explained as she nervously swayed the hammock. "It's been more than three months, my confirmation to work again is probably in the mail back at home. I can go back to being a doctor and leave this crazy place."
I became silent with disbelief. She wanted to leave. Something painful swelled in my heart as I thought about what she was saying.
"Never mind." She shook her head, nervously chuckled. "I'm always bad with timing. Anyways, we should go inside. I think I've gotten enough sun."
Kimberly was quick to get up and walk back to the house. She stopped as she reached the door. Hesitantly, she turned around.
"Forget about what I said." She forced a smile onto her lips, "I was joking. The sun must have fried my brain, huh?"
Something told me that she wasn't joking. I have to stop her. She can't just leave us.
"You think they'll let you be a doctor when they find out you killed someone?" I asked her as I got up from the swing.
I watched Kimberley's jaw drop as I walked over to her. The surprise on her face was quickly masked by rage.
"What do you mean 'when they find out you killed someone'?" She asked, angrily stepping forward to me. "Are you saying that if I leave, you'll tell the police?"
"I'm saying that you can't leave Il Bisbiglio that easily."
"If you do that. I can do the same." Kimberly blurted out, fast to defend her self. "I'll leak the locations of your safe houses."
Now I was angry at a whole new topic. "Then they'll have proof that you've been in organized crime."
"I'll say you held me, hostage, to sell as a sex slave."
I knew where were both saying things that we didn't mean. I controlled my breath, trying to calm down to my senses. Kimberly, however, was still fuming. She spun around, to not face me, ready to walk away.
I aimed for her hand, but I got a hold of her wrist. In one swift moment, I got her against the wall, trapping Kimberly between my arms.
Kimberly Stratus:
As I was pressed on the wall by Matteo, I was reminding me of the time we were in this position earlier this day. My arms were at the sides of my head, held up by his hands.
"Let go of me." I angerly spat out the words. I was too angry at the moment to be flustered. He was blackmailing me. I don't even know why he would. We both know neither of us wanted to blow over our jobs, even though his was illegal.
He scanned my face, stopping his sight at my lips. I was not falling for this again.
"Matteo, stop it," I said, I tried to get out of his grip.
I halted as he began to lean in, and this time, he connected our lip.
Instantly, I melted under his touch. Just as fast as his lips landed on mine, it left. He pulled back to look at my face, for my reaction.
"Don't do this to me," I begged. I understood what he was trying to do, now. He wanted to make this harder for me. As much as I surprisingly found myself enjoying this dangerous side of the world and the familia's company, there was no way I can stay.
Ignoring my plea, he drew his mouth to mine. This time, this kiss was long with a story. I felt his emotions the was never spoken or shown. Matteo was fighting for me. In a way, he was telling me that he didn't want me to leave, that he needed me to stay. He deepened the kiss, waiting for my response.
The anger was stripped away from me as my emotions stirred. I kissed back, just as passionate, trying to interpret my feelings. I showed Matteo how scared I was, how I needed to leave.
Seeing that I was still opposing him, he pressed harder. The authority in the kiss was telling me to stay made my emotions more confused. I let myself crumble in his arms, closing my eyes.
At this point, I wasn't thinking about the mafia or how swollen my lips were going to be. Matteo was on my mind as we went at it. This was the first time where I'm closest to Matteo, where he was unmasking.
As he held me tighter, he brought my attention to the people I would be leaving behind. I'd be walking away from the best people I've ever met. Marcella, Aiden, and Giovanni, as much as Matteo, had a place in my heart.
The kiss had died down, Matteo was now, slowly, pulling away. I as well was falteringly to a stop. There was nothing left to do but to stare at each other as we caught our breaths. His eyes asked me one question: What are you going to do now?
My heart compared to a few minutes before was now slow and steady, as well as heavy. My lips that were smiling against his a few seconds ago were now frowning. My eyes that were closed in that blissful moment were now opened with tears.
I'll have to face a decision.
A choice between my heart and mind.
Should I stay or should I go?
