Chapter five: things that shouldn't
A soft thud echoed through the abandoned barn.
Castiel stared at the spilled blood the started to leak from the body in a small stream, running and avoiding little grassy stumps that rose from the ground.
"You ready to go Cas?" Sam asked, disrupting Castiels silence.
"Yea..." castiel answered.
He glanced one more time at the beheaded corpse that lay on the ground and turned his away.
His steps made the grass crunch beneath his feet.
Walking behind Sam, they made there way into the cool night, the impala shining in the mellow light.
It pained both Sam and Cas to use deans car but they knew that Dean would have wanted his baby out on a hunt instead of sitting there to rot.
Castiel quickly went into the passenger side of the car and sat down to be welcomed by the familiar smell if Dean.
Whisky and leather.
Castiels chest tightened as he slowly breathed in through his nose. That smell brought back a million memories but he couldn't let pain get the best of him. He had to hold and feeling he has for Dean inside. Or at least until he visited Deans grave again.
It had been weeks since Cas visited Dean and he wanted to do it soon but he was too far away on the case to do it again. He missed Dean. He missed him a lot.
He clutched Deans necklace that now hung around his neck for dear life. He has traced his hands over it so many times when he got it, he knew every little dip and curve. For him, the necklace was the only thing that kept him close to Dean.
Sam swung himself into he car and slammed his door shut with a bang. He started the car in a swift motion and pulled out of the barns drive way and into the bumpy road.
"Nice moves back there Cas. Got that vamp good." Sam said.
Cas nodded. "I suppose so." He grumbled.
Even though he agreed to hunt, he didn't really enjoy it since the last time he hunted was with Dean and we all know how that ended up. Cas didn't feel like that complement was necessary since they had hunted many times before.
Sighing, Castiel looked back out the window and stared at the moon and the stars.
The stars seemed to shine brighter against the dark sky tonight. If Cas could, he would name a star after Dean. He could if he wanted to, but only he would know that star would be called that but Castiel would want to have the whole world know what it was called so in a way, the whole world could know the greatest man that lived.
Castiels test tightened even more and his breathing hitched a bit but Sam either didn't notice or ignored it.
He would do anything if he could stare at the stars with Dean like they sometimes did when they got a break. All three of them would sit on the hood and watch them in wonder all night long as silence would stretch around them like a warm blanket.
That's what the sky looked like in Deans heaven.
Cas remembered when he went to Deans heaven. It was when Sam was just a small boy and they were setting fire works off in a field ( which in the end they accidentally set the field on fire) but that was one of Deans best memories. Most of his best memories were with Sam and his family but in most of the memories the sky was always like that night where they would sit on the hood. Twinkling stars above them in the crystal night of peace and silence. Cas missed that.
As Sam and Cas drove down the dark road, both men stared at the sky, with Dean in their minds. And how they missed him.
As they thought about Dean and the stars, they never noticed a flicker of a shape in the back seat. They didn't notice the small whispers or anything. All they noticed were the stars and how they shined.
------------
Castiel lay on the stiff hotel bed, on top of the blankets like how Dean would used to sleep.
Cas couldn't get Dean out if his mind. It's only been a couple weeks since they lost him so you can expect Dean to be on his mind a lot but this was different. We was still grieving for him, but he was also lost in wonder. Wonder if Dean was here with them. He had no clue how Dean could be here with them but he couldn't help but hope.
Sighing, he glanced over to Sam who was snoring slightly. His mouth was slightly open as a small stream of drool soaked into his pillow. The blanket rapped around his body tightly as his limbs stool out in different directions.
This would have been something Dean would of laughed at. Too bad he wasn't here to do it.
Castiel quickly looked back to the ceiling and traced the crack on the ceiling with his eyes to try and distract himself.
Soon Castiel was lost in thought as he stared at the ceiling blindly.
Suddenly, there was a blurry face in front of his eyes. Gasping, Castiel pushed his body against the bed in surprise as his eyes focused in the face above him.
This was a face Cas thought he would never see again.
