The Secret of Wings

chapter 2

Lily's POV

I wake up the next morning to the bright light of the sun peeking through my curtains. Remembering my plans for the day I hop out of bed. Grabbing my pink bath robe I pad across the floor to my bathroom. After taking a quick shower I  go to put on the outfit I had picked the night before. I pull on the light blue jeans and black flower patterned tank top, topping it off with a flower patterned head band to push back my strawberry blonde hair and pull on my cherry doc martens, my sixteenth birthday present from Louis, the man I consider a dad. I apply a small amount of mascara, grab my wallet and head downstairs to meet James.

“Morning” Hunter greets me as I enter the kitchen.

I smile widely at him and grab some lucky charms and milk. I plop into the chair next to him and sigh.

"Lovely morning" I reply "I wish it wasn't our last day here"

"I feel you" he says "but we have got to get you back to school on time, after all the big man is always watching us!"

I laugh internally, for some reason Hunter always calls the government the big man but I have no idea why. I mean after all the years we spent in their hidden laboratories I don't exactly want to give them nicknames, plus I know they have our houses bugged with cameras and mics so they hear everything we say anyway, and they are not stupid enough to be fooled my a silly nickname like the big man. But I always just let Hunter be Hunter....

"yep" I reply "wouldn't want to upset the government. Have you seen James this morning?"

"What about me?" James questions, walking into the room.

"Just wondering where you were" I reply "we have to get going if we want to have time to get all of the hair gel you will need for the first week."

He glares at me before grabbing a bowl of cereal and sitting down.

"Well I've got to get to work" Hunter says "See you guys later"

"Bye Hunter"

We finish the rest of breakfast in silence, James is still brooding over the hair gel insult.

Once we are both finished I stand up and put my bowl in the sink.

"Alright" i say "Lets go"

We walk to the cliff and jump off, still in silence so I fly closer to him and tap him on the back screaming

"tag, you're it!!"

I fly off as fast as I can once I hear him start to follow and we chase each other down till we reach the forest near town.

We are both still laughing by the time we land and when we set off towards the store we are friends again.

A few minutes later we reach the entrance to the mall.

"So clothes shopping separately and then meet at the food court for lunch, then we get supplies for class together?" I ask.

“Sounds like a plan" James replies and we set off into the mall in search of some new clothes.

I head to h&m in search of a good dress for the first day of school. Looking through the racks I find a great black and white patterned dress that is pretty yet casual. I head to the dressing room to try it on. On my way in I see my best friend Alice with our other friend Bailey.

“Lily!!!" she screams running over to me and giving me a tight hug.

“I had no idea you were home!"

“Alice!! Its great to see you! We just got back this morning and James and I decided we should get our stuff for school since, you know, it starts in a few days"

"Cool! Ooh are you getting that dress?" She asks looking at what I'm holding.

“I was thinking about it." I reply “I'm about to try it on"

“Ooh go do it I want to see!!"

I head into a fitting room and pull the dress on quickly. I open the door and step out.

“Its so perfect" they squeal together. “you have to get it for the first day of school!"

“I was planning too!" I said “I'm glad you like it! I've missed you guys. How have things been here?"

“Well to be honest its been a pretty boring summer for me" Alice said “Although Bailey got a boyfriend!"

Bailey blushed and stared at the ground as I jumped up and down.

“Yasss Bailey" I said “Who is he??"

“Its Peter from school" she said, looking at the ground.

“Aww yay" I said “You guys will be so cute together!"

“What about you?" Alice asked me “Did you meet any guys over the summer?"

I blushed a little and Alice smirked at me.

“Yeah" I admitted. “Come checkout with me and I'll tell you on my way to find James"

As we walked I told them all about John and everything about camp. I realized how much I had missed them and I couldn't wait to get back to school on Monday.

When we reached the food court I saw James standing by the burger king. Saying goodbye to my friends and promising to call them I walked over to him.

“Hey James. Did you find any good clothes?"

“Yeah, you know, got some new clothes and hair stuff"

I smirked at him “what did I say, i knew you were going to get a ton of gel!"

“Wow Lily, you know me so well, its almost like we're twins" he said sarcastically

I laughed, punching him in the arm.

“so lets get some lunch" i said.

I wandered over to the sushi bar and picked out a California roll. Spotting an empty table i headed over and sat down. James joined me and we ate.

“alright, lets go conquer office depot" I said when we were finished eating.

He chuckled and we started off together through the mall.
