Aphmau's POV
*Play Song*
"So I ask the fisherman why the fish was burned on one side and raw on the other, and you know what the idiot said?" Katelyn asks the rest of us, all of us shrugging as we prepared ourselves for our shifts.
"Oh and nooo it wasn't because he forgot to cook the other side, nooooo, it's because the fish likes to sun tan...."
We all break out laughing.
"Hey, that fish is like Travis." Garroth remarks, all of us just laughing harder.
Well, except for Travis.
"Hey! That was one time, and Katelyn forgot to tell me to turn!" Travis blames, folding his arms in an unamused manner.
"Oh no, that unattractive burn was all you, my dear....." Katelyn winks, all of us still laughing.
I missed this......
So much........
"Come on you clowns, there are lives to be saved now get a move on." Zane orders, everyone but me quickly sprinting out of the room, some playfully pushing each other.
I was calmly organizing my locker and preparing my lab coat.
"How are you settling in?" Zane asks calmly, walking in with his hands in his pockets.
"It's coming~ along~ just~ fine~, Chief~ Zane~" I respond, a small bit of a failed British accent laced in my voice.
"Haha I'm glad, and it's all thanks to your fiance anyway's........."
"How's Kawaii~chan taking it?" I ask a bit worriedly, hoping she was okay with all the responsibilities Zane had now.
"Actually......." Before Zane could finish, a familiar face enters the room, she holding a clipboard and an earpiece, joining Zane by his side.
"Hey, Aphmau~senpai! Guess what? I'm Zane~senpai's new assistant!" Kawaii~chan beams, Zane wrapping his arm around her waist.
Assistant?
This is amazing!
KC has been searching for a job for a while......
"That's amazing you guys! Seems like the perfect fit, now I'm gonna head to the ER before all the good cases are gone...."
I run off, waving goodbye to the lovely couple.

"56-year-old female with lacerations to the chest and right forearm fracture. Victim to a pileup on I-96. Found unconscious in the field with possible concussion. Slight burns on the legs. Stats stable for now." The paramedic informs us as Katelyn, Garroth, Travis and I push the gurney into Trauma room 1, setting up the IV and central line while starting to do an assessment.
Katelyn was checking the chest lacerations.
Garroth was checking the forearm break.
Travis was checking the burns.
I was checking the concussion before calling to the nurse to page neuro, Aaron appearing in the room only minutes later, joining me by the woman's head.
I was checking the woman's eye's when I saw something that made me freeze a little.
Her eye's......
They seemed so.....familiar.....
I shake my head of the thought then continue to check her skull, finding a slight abnormality.
"These lacerations are going to need surgery," Katelyn states.
"So does her forearm," Garroth says.
"Her burns need serious debridement...." Travis informs.
"She also has a brain bleed, c'mon let's get her to the O.R." Aaron helps everyone push the gurney towards the surgery hallway, everyone clearing the way as we run alongside it.
I've forgotten the rush that came from this job.

As Aaron and I are scrubbing in the scrub room, I feel a hand quickly rest on my shoulder.
I swivel my head, to see Zane with a mask over his mouth.
I mean a medical mask, not his usual scarf.
"Aphmau you can't be operating on this woman." He orders sternly, his voice muffled by his mask.
"What? Why?" I question, looking at Zane but still scrubbing.
"What's wrong Zane?" Aaron butts in, wiping his hands on a hand towel.
Zane rips off his mask, turning his vision back to me, his eyes full of seriousness.
"That woman.....is your mother....."
Have a nice day my crystals!
