Aphmau's POV
*Play Song*
"....And this is our new collection of 3D printers for printing conduits and artificial organs." Katelyn gestures to rows and rows of machines, all moving at the same time, producing all kinds of awe-inspiring things.
Aaron and I follow along behind her, checking out the somewhat unrecognizable hospital.
It's just so......different.....
So.....updated.....
It looked like a scene out of a futuristic sci-fi movie.
"....We also have.......THIS.." At the word "this", Zane presses a few silver buttons on a small panel on the wall, the room's light dimming to complete darkness.
Angel whines fearfully, Aaron comforting her calmly.
I hear Zane press a few more buttons before a bright light appears right out of the middle of nowhere.
The bright light is a floating holographic image of a human heart, the color/colour of it being realistically similar to the real thing.
"Oh....my.....Irene......" I manage out, my jaw dropped so far it was metaphorically touching the floor.
"Yep, got this baby a few months ago with a little bit of funding from the Chief.........oh and by the way.....Aaron......the chief wants to talk to you..." Katelyn says neutrally, not hinting in any way if it was good or bad.
"Okay, I'll go now........." Aaron starts, but Travis jumps in.
"WAIT! We still need to show them the memorial." Travis smiles slightly, everyone except Aaron and I, nod, all having the same expression.
Memorial?
*******************
Katelyn walks about a meter in front of us, Angel still cooing in Aaron's arms, wrapping her miniscule hands around tufts of his hair before giggling.
You little Angel......
The automatic glass doors slide open at the sight of Katelyn, she walking out then moving out of Aaron and I's view.
What I see......
At that moment.....
On this day......
In this world.......
Is a whole new part of the hospital, entirely......
Pediatric.......
We walk slowly more into it, watching little kids chase each other and parents comfort their little ones in these colorful halls, hearing the happy cries of children.......
The happy actions......of smiling tiny humans.
Two little kids run past me, throwing a small rubber ball back and forth, both laughing and grinning.
I even smile at the two, remembering memories of times like this.
I look back to Aaron, him returning my smile, knowing what I was referring to.....
The times when we were just kids like that, just passing a small baseball back and forth, not knowing and not caring for anything else in the world but if the ball drops.........
It was that simple, just keep the ball from touching the ground for as long as you could before you lose.
Before you feel the pain of having lost and having to retrieve the ball so you could start again.......
Actually, its kinda like a metaphor of life...
Its inevitable, being that the ball will fall eventually, and pain will be felt.
But you decide how long the ball stays afloat in the air.
I'm then interrupted by something nudging my boot, making me look down, seeing a young girl, maybe around 5 years old with brunette hair.
She looks up to me with wonder in her green eyes, her nicely naturally curvy locks hanging by her side.
I smile at her, she returning the smile, with such a spark I've seen only once in my life.....
The spark.....in a similar 5-year-old girl......
The girl is then called over by who I think to be her mother, skipping over to her with such grace.
The group then stops walking, stopping at the main nurse station of the floor, my mouth ajar again in an even more surprised state.
"You guys......" I start tearing up, walking over to every single one of my friends to hug them ever so tightly, more tears generating.
I finally end the hugging spree by joining arms with Aaron and Angel, Aaron having a singular tear running down his face himself.
We both then look back the nurse's station, observing the beautiful plaque on the wall.
