Aphmau's POV
*Play Song*
Mr. Garnet looks down, a bit of guilt in his face, then looks up, sitting up on the ER bed, his lacerated arm lying on a table nearby.
He looks so much like her......
I blink my eyes many times, feeling returning to my body.
"Its great to see you again Aphmau......you still look very beautiful....." Says Mrs. Garnet, standing next to her husband's bedside, the same guilty look plastered on her face, very similar to her husband's.
I still couldn't speak....
I could open my mouth and look like an idiot or a fish out of the water...
But no.....
I couldn't manage a single word.
WHAT ELSE AM I SUPPOSE TO SAY?!
They might have been feeling guilty......
But whatever they did.....
I did something even worse.......
Someone help me goddammit!
But no....
It was just me alone.....
With two parents who must be looking for their bubbly 7-year-old with electric blue eyes......
That I had killed.....
The two then both sigh at the same time, exchanging a look before turning back to me.
"We know.......and we deserve that look....and whatever harsh look you want to send our way....." Mr. Garnet laces his uninjured hand with his wife's.
".....but....we know what we did wrong....and it was the cruelest.....most selfish thing any parent could do.....in the world....." Mrs. Garnet finishes for him, her tone deep and sincere.
"....And we know you and Aaron have taken guardianship of Lilith.....and...we would be so grateful.....if we could....see her....."
That is when I pass out.
Falling to the ground, my heart failing and my head throbbing out of nowhere.
As the darkness consumes me.
*****************************
".....Aph.....Aph......APH!"
My eyes shoot open, my head throbbing again and my back aching, looking up at a bunch of worried faces.
How many freaking times does this have to happen?!
I see Ivy, then I see Aaron, his face now relieved....
Then......I see the Garnets.......
"Aaron......what happened?" I croak out, breathing heavily, sitting up slowly, groaning.
"You fainted.....your heart is still a bit weak from the incident and a...severe amount of stress became too much for it to take....."
I smile.
"You see? This is why I keep you in the house...." Aaron jokes, making me scoff defensively, him helping me stand up.
Then he turns to the Garnets, his expression reflecting mine.
"Mr. and Mrs. Garnet......would you please follow me?" His voice pained.
*************************
We sit ourselves down in a conference room, Aaron and I sitting at one side of the table as the Garnets sat opposite.
They both look a tad bit concerned, though still had a hint of their smiles.
Oh no......
Then Aaron starts talking, resting his elbows on the table, his hands laced in front of him professionally.
"Mrs. and Mr. Garnet.......I'm afraid....you cannot see Lilith......" He says solemnly.
I grip his arm tightly, guilt and regret pulsing through my body.
"Why? I understand we made a mistake but....."
"Mr. Garnet....this is not a matter of law here......we are talking matter of.....possibility...." Aaron continues.
I stay silent.
"What do you mean?"
"Mr. and Mrs.Garnet.......about two years ago.....there was a fire....at this hospital......."
"No.....no..." Before Aaron can even finish talking, Mrs. Garnet starts sobbing.......
And so do I.....
"There was a man.....that came to the hospital looking for revenge.....he took Lilith from us....and .....and........" Aaron drops his head, trying to not cry....even though....the only thing anyone wanted to do right now.......
....Is cry.....
Because an amazing life has been lost......
.....an amazing life that wasn't lived......
.........
.....why couldn't it have been me?
"Dr. Lycan, you better tell and tell me right damn now, cause I won't believe it until you tell me...." Mr. Garnet's expression wavering between extreme sadness and rage.
Aaron clears his throat, as a tear becomes successful in its pursuit down his face.
".....Lilith passed away.......she died....."
Mrs. Garnet screams then collapses on her husband's back, his expression now blank, staring straight at the conference table before him.
I rest my head on Aaron's shoulder, sobbing silently.
Then Mr. Garnet shoots up, no regard for his wife who was laying on top of him.
"You bastard......" he whispers, glaring at Aaron.
Aaron merely gulps, not knowing what to say.
Really because what you could say......
What could we possibly say.....
So this.....
This is how Lily must have felt.....
You intended for one thing......
But yet, something horrifying happens instead.
"You should have gone.....not her.....not Lilith," Mr. Garnet says, his voice laced with loads of hostility.
Aaron looks from the table, to meet Mr. Garnet's burning gaze.
"I will not argue with you there Mr. Garnet......"
"Aaron...." I try, shaking my head, biting my lip.
"I will not argue with you......that I should have died instead of her.....Lilith deserved better....."
".....she deserved better than you and I......"
Mr. Garnet, now silenced, stomps out the room, followed by his wife, who stops just outside the door, turning back to me, her eyes bloodshot.
"Did she......did she....suffer?" She asks, her voice breaking, her blond hair tips soaked.
"No....she had a bit of pain......but she went quickly.....we were with her but we couldn't...." I start, but she stops me.
"I know......I just.....wanted to know...." She then goes and races off into the hall towards her husband.
The only sound in the room is the clock ticking away, Aaron and I just sitting in those two chairs.
Grasping hands....
Failing at relieving guilt....
And at healing....our hearts.....
Have a nice day my crystals!
