"We're so ready," Lucas said as he walked up to me. The hair stylist Gennie was still working with my hair so it looked like the 40's while all Lucas had to do really was gel it over."I think we'll make it through to next round."
"I'm loving this new-found confidence for Broadway," I said. Lucas pulled a chair up so he was sitting diagonally from me so I could look and talk to him."What's up?"
"I'm just feeling really confident. Also, I wanted to ask you a question."
"Anything,"I said putting my feet up so they were on his lap.
"Do a challenge video with me this week. One day after practice. People keep asking for you to join me in a video and if you'll be making a channel."
"Challenge video sounds fun." The fact that Lyla keeps begging for me to make a video hasn't made things any less challenging. She wants me to make a channel. Get camera's and and make video's. she thinks it's the best thing I could do for myself seeing as I've been hiding away for years, putting myself out there like that would be perfect.
It would also drive my parents crazy.
"What about your first video?" He asked. The hair stylist finished off my hair the makeup artist quickly chest my makeup.
"No idea. Maybe...a get to know me..."
"That's cliche'."I lightly kicked him with my foot."Okay, okay, how about...you come over, we'll film it together, and I'll show you how to edit."
"2 minutes." One of the stage managers said to us as he passed. Lucas and I stood.
"Come on Sky it will be fun." he said.
"Fine." Together we walked to side stage and watch as Andy and her partner Kieth danced. He stood by me as we watched their dance finish and the stage faded to black. Stage crew brought the couch out as video from the week played above. Talking about growing up dancing. Pictures of us when we were little and even slow-motion clips of youtube video's Lucas has been posting.
When they put the pillows filled with feathers on the couch we ran over and took our places. I waited as the announcer gave the title of our dance When the lights came on I could see no one else but Lucas and I. The music started and everything that's happened this week, all but the dance left my mind.
Together we danced and there were no mistakes. Nothing could take us down. Nothing can stop us. I kept to the beat of the music and the memory of choreography.
When we finished our routine feathers still floated around us. The crowd hooted and hollered.
**********
"We'll make it through. You heard that crowd."Lucas said to me as we walked out of the building together with our bags on our shoulders. I ran my hands through my wet hair.
"I still can't believe you ripped your pants," I said with a laugh. Lucas rolled his eyes."I know. Lyla nonstop keeps me updated on where we are on the charts. What dance style do you want next week?" I asked
"I don't care. I know it will be interesting though. Interesting to see what choreographer we get and filming."
Choreographers are starting now. They left the first week up to us. Now its dances not made up by us but by someone we'll be working with at Stage One. Which means even more dance styles envolved."For the love of god, please, not ballet"
"Ballet?" Lucas asked as we reached our cars.
"Even when I was a kid, I hated it, couldn't take the music, I just ended up hanging from the bars. It's always been the one dance style I can't do."
"I believe in you. You'll put your mind into it. Oh, and do you mind coming up with something for another workshop at the school? Something fun and upbeat."
"Sure. What about the weekend class with the other contestants?"
"I've got a friend coming. I'll talk to you tomorrow about when we can meet up for filming your video." He kissed my cheek and walked over to his car. I walked over to mine. I put the aux cord into my phone and drove off away from the studio.
I was in for trouble if I don't win this competition. Mom and dad would only go on about how they were right. How I should have just continued with focusing on school. But even if this competition didn't happen, I'd never stop dancing. I'm never giving it up.
