The Nerd Can Dance

First Eliminations

I woke up to the smell of turkey bacon. Next best thing to bacon but the parents are the ones who refuse to make real bacon. I didn't bother getting ready for the day first because hello food.

"Waffles?" I asked as I saw my dad poor the batter into the waffle maker.

"Yes. It's a big day today." He said.

"Your brother has a big game tonight." My heart dropped. I could be eliminated from something that could change my life forever or crush me. I know the chances of Lucas and I being eliminated are so low but there's still that small chance. Chase looked over to me a smirk on his face for a moment then it his whole face went blank.

"Not hungry."I walked over to the fridge and pulled out two bottles of water.

"Honey, you can't just leave, you have to eat."My mother said as she made me a plate.

"I can't have parents who actually care about me, so I'm going to leave." A look I don't know how to describe came over my parents."We all know who you actually care about."

I made my way up the stairs and back into my room. I back my backpack for the school day and then I grabbed my two duffel bags. I filled it with all of my clothes and things I use on a daily bases, including bathroom things. I shoved my tablet and my computer in the bag then a few of my favorite shoes like my Adidas black striped superstars, my Nike free 3. shoes.After gathering my things I left my room. I went right to the door. Ignoring my parents and brother in the kitchen having a good time. I grabbed my keys and walked out feeling only happy...no hurt or sadness. I threw my things in the back seat then pulled out my phone.

I'm coming early. Dropping stuff off

I put the aux cord in my phone then threw it in the passenger seat. I drove the familiar path to Lyla's house. I pulled in behind her mother's van and jumped out. I grabbed my bags from the back and made my way to the door. I opened it using the key they gave me long ago."I'm here."I yelled.

"Morning."I heard Lyla's father yell from the kitchen.

"Hey,"I watch Lyla come down the stairs bag on her shoulder."What's this."

"I guess I'm moving in sooner than expected."

"What happened?"

"What always happens. My brother. They care more about his game tonight then the possibility of me being eliminated. So I'm done."

"Your brother didn't stand up for you?"

"Old habits die hard."Together we started making our way back to her room.

"Well, I talk to him later. But in the mean time, I have a gift for you."I dropped my things on her floor as she walked over to her bed. She picked up a box and something else. She turned back and held it out to me. I saw a box for a canon powershot G& x Mark ll camera and a memory card with 64GB.

"You got me a camera?" She nodded her head with a smile."How much was it?"

"Not telling you. Use it today." Before I could say anything she was taking it out of the box putting everything together."Make your first video."

"Lyla I-"

"You can and will. We're getting that channel started, today." She put the camera in my hand and kissed my cheek."I'll meet you downstairs." She walked away and I turned looking at the room.

Just like us, this room has changed a lot over the years. As kids it was pink. As preteens, it was neon pink with a zebra print wall. Now it's a nice light mint green. My room has always been a light blue. My parents painted it for my brother when he was born. When they found out about me they just ut him in another room and then kept the walls the same. I asked a million times to paint it. They only ever said the color held to many memories. Just no memories of me.

Ever since this competition started my life has been on an inclining rollercoaster. I'm just wondering when it will come down.

"Lucas!"I ran up to him camera on and getting closer to hi face."Hows having the camera so up and in your face now?"

"Normal." I pulled away as I smile "Your vlogging?"

"More like testing it out." I flipped the screen the held it up so I could step closer to Lucas and get us both in the frame."I'm still not sure if I like it."

"Please."Lucas bent down and kissed my cheek. I felt the heat start to rise in my face. "Your a natural. And you look good on camera."

"I exsist to lovebirds."I put the screen back down and turned to to Lyla who just walked up from getting her things in her locker."If only some of these close minds here at school came with closed mouths."

"What now?" I asked.

"Just another Biggot in the bunch."

"Did you hit them?"

"Almost." She took the camera from my hands and turned it onto Lucas and I."But anyway, let's show the world what they really want. The next two dancers to run the world and social media."

"Your crazy."I took the camera back and stopped recording. I turned back to Lucas.

"I'm still driving you to the studio today right,? Then I'm taking you back home after?"

"Yep. But actually home is now Lyla's place."Lucas gave me only a concerned look"I'll explain later." The bell ring making me hold the camera closer to me."I'll see you later."He kissed my cheek then together Lyla and me ran off to our class.

I filmed as much as I could during lunch then left it alone during classes. But I took it back out when the last bell ended and I started making my way to Lucas's car. That's when I saw his camera was out and filming me.

"YouTube inception!" He yelled."You're sharing the footage with me." He pointed to me.

"Only if you share yours." I got up to the car." You ready for tonight?"

"Ready is my middle name." We both got in the car and he stopped filming. I continued even after he started the car and pulled out of the parking spot. He asked questions and I answered them and as we pulled up to the studio I ended it for now.

We met up in the studio where we practice the group dance. When 5:30 came they ushered us around to get ready. Get out hair and makeup done. I'm Jessie from toy story while Jason is Woody. Andi got to be little bo peep which she really wanted.

Lucas took over filming for a little bit but then had to put it away before filming started. Everyone got to their spots and we waited for them to announce the start of the dance.Stuck in a box with everyone we could only see because we had small lights around the edges."Good luck." Lucas mouthed to me from the other side of the box. I repeated it back to him.

"Hey Everyone I'm your host for tonight Kelly Thompson and who knows maybe even more than just tonight. I'm the teachers assistant to our main dance teacher and multiple Coaches who help build our students careers. It's first Eliminations so we're going to start with the group dance that our amazing dancers learned this week. And of course we'll see some solos over the course of tonight.

"But enough of me let's see our dancers!" The crowd grew louder with their clapping and shoots. The lights in the box turned off and we all got ready. The music started and Lucas and I stepped out to shining lights and a screaming crowd.

Everything that's happened today slipped away.
