While sitting at my desk I tapped my pencil to the beat of the song playing through my headphones. While English class is one of my favorites the fact that our teach was out sick left us with a substitute teacher who just gave us a couple work sheets then we could do what ever we wanted. I finished the worksheets in ten minutes unlike most of the kids who were still working on it.
When my music lowered for a minute I looked at the screen seeing a text from my mother.
Come home now.
I closed my phone and gathered my things. The teacher didn't even bother to look up as I stood. Risking it I just walked out of the classroom. The halls empty seeing as class was barely half way through. My phone beeping made me pull it from my back pocket.
My mom just texted me to meet at your house, what's going on? Are you okay?-L
I smiled at the message. Lucas is a bit protective and worries. Some of my favourite things about him. Getting around to the front of the school I could hear fast passes feet hit the ground. Turning I saw Lyla running to me.
"I'm coming with you."
"How did you-"
"I have eyes everywhere. That and Jeremy Welkins said you just, up and left. What's going on?"
"Wish I could tell you." She followed as I texted Lucas I was fine and had no idea why my mother sent out her bat signal. I listened to Lyla talk about all the reasons my mother would want to see Lucas and I. The video's? The competition?
It was a fairly awkward drive to my house and when we got there saw two separate cars, I've never seen before."Family?"
"With Lucas too?" I asked Lyla. Behind us I watched as Lucas car pulled up and parked. He got out of his car.
We got out meeting Lucas and with cation we made our way into the house. Walking in I could hear my mother and father laughing.
"And she picked GG right up." I heard a strange male voice say.
"Oh Skylar, hi." My mother stood as she noticed us.
"Honey this is, Kelly Oran and Cody Benetton."
"Cody, what's up?" Lucas walked over and shook his hand."What are you doing here?"
"I'm more curious as to who you are."
"I'm Lucas's manager and Kelly is an agent. She's been watching the show and can see what you can do Skylar." I sat there frozen. My parents sitting there acting like suportive parents as if they didn't make me quit dance after starting highschool. I held my toung as we sat down.
Talking with Kelly along with Lucas as Lyla made my parents leave the room. After heavy protest she whispered in my fathers ear and suddenly he wasn't so objective to the idea of leaving the room.
Kelly wanted to sign Lucas and I for movies, tv shows, and even dancers for artist right away. I made sure it was clear that I could finish the compition and if I get into Stage One, I'd work while Im school If I choose to. I noticed the small smile on her face. She gave the okay. The agency would wait. Didn't matter how long. They just wanted first grabs. Best part was my parents had no say in anything yet.
Making them leave the room is the best thing possible also considering I don't even live with them. Once they had left Lucas just smiled to me. "Did that really just happen." I nodded my head.
My parents came back in, complaining of course and telling me how I better have agreed to do what ever it was they wanted. How they would call them back if they had too. Both arguing about my choice in future that so far was just a question. I hated that Lucas was there to see it but he didn't say anything. He held my hand feeling my tension.
"Shut up!" I yelled."You two are crazy. I'm not living here I'm living with Lyla. You no longer have anyway in what I do. You want to control someone, control my brother, but not me." I walked away before they could say anything else. I didn't need to hear anymore.
Taking our cars we drove back to school. Lyla went back inside the school ready to go to her next class while Lucas and I stood outside leaning on the hood of my car Lucas stood in front of me."That was hot.."
"What?" I asked
"Saying that to your parents." I didn't say anything I just let him step closer so he pressed me against the car and him put his hands on the hood keeping his balance.
"What do you say to just handling out and dancing in the studio the rest of the day. I've got some favours that need cashing in."
"Sounds great to me." He kissed my cheek but quickly moved to my earlobe making me jump and gain a chuckle from him.
We left the parking lot going to the studio to work on a dance for the next workshop for the dance team but also found some time to work on the competition choreography. A pleasant end to a crappy morning. A relief in knowing no matter what, I'll be able to do what I want in the future.
