The Rivers Edge

I chuckle seeing how excited Betty and my sister are to be Vixens. My smile was clear to them. Betty giggles smiling at both of us. "Perfect. Very Betty Draper, season 1."

Betty and my sister sit down beside me and I look to her confused seeing her nervous state. "Why did... why did you defend me? I know the crowd you two ran with in New York. Why are you both being so... nice?"

"Let's walk," I tell her and we pick up our bags and start walking the track.

"Well, when our father got arrested it was the worst thing ever. All these trolls started writing horrible things about us. We'd get letters and e-mails saying that our dad was a thief, my mom was a clueless socialite, and that we were the spoiled rich-bitch ice princesses. And what hurts the most about it was... the things the trolls were writing were true." Roni states and I smile at her.

"Truth is... Roni was like Cheryl and me... I'm worst than Cheryl. Still am, clearly. So when my mom said we were moving to Riverdale, we made a pact with each other to use this as an opportunity to become maybe, hopefully, a better version of ourselves." I tell her looking out at the track.

I was lying for half of it. I didn't mean to stay true to that pact. I'll try but I can't go soft. Not with the Serpents to worry about. I still have to stay strong for my family. Being the oldest twin it's my job to protect my sister.

"When Polly and Jason got together... it meant everything to her and nothing to him, and..." Betty sighs before resuming. "And things got super intense and weird and toxic and my mom turned on Polly. Said Polly wasn't her daughter anymore, said all these awful things to her. Jason hurt Polly, but it's my mom who broke her."

I look to the ground hearing that. Betty shouldn't have to live like that or Polly. "Archie!"

I look to my sister confused before looking forward seeing Archie running toward us.

"What are you doing?"

"Slaying your dragons, Betty Cooper, one by one." Archie stops in front of us and I smirk at him. "Hi, Teen Outlander."

"Hey. Nice outfits."

"Betty here has something she wants to ask you about the Back-to-School dance. Go on, Betty, ask."

"I was wondering if you wanted to come with the three of us."

"Huh?"
"What?"
"Betty."

All of our responses were in disbelief as she throws us into the mix.

"It's your first dance at Riverdale. You should have someone to go with, that's not each other, even if it's just a friend."

"I mean, I'd love to. Right, Kate."

"Right," I say surprised. I don't like school events.

"I'm not really in the headspace for a dance."

"Oh, that's okay."

"No, it's not!" I state surprising Betty.

"Totally unacceptable, Archiekins! We need an escort. Take a break from being a tortured musical genius and come spend a blissful evening with not one, nor two, but three newly-minted River Vixens. We'll text you time and place."

Archie chuckles at my sister. "Okay. Yeah, okay. Bye."

"Bye." Betty mumbles.
