Touch of Evil

I roll over in bed looking up. My head is killing me. I sit up before recognizing the room. And it's not the one from the hotel. "Good morning, princess."

"Fuck." I groan out. My hand finds my tangled curls and my face lands back on the bed. Back to the soft pillows.

"Oh hush, Kat."

"Shut the fuck up, Forsythe," I tell him.

The bed dips due to his weight and feel a hand on the side of my cheek. I open my eyes seeing him smirking down at me. God damn him and his perfect... everything. "Did we..."

"Have sex? No, you were too drunk to call the cab. I found you outside when I went back out. You were throwing rocks cursing my name."

"Well, you deserve it."

"I was an ass I'll attempt it. Come on you need to get home and you got school."

"Fuck school."

He laughs heartedly and I smile hearing it. I guess this is why we understand each other. Even after a petty fight like that. He slaps the side of my thigh and his eyes glint with mischief.

"You don't want to be here with me all day. You wouldn't be able to walk for days." I smash my hand to his face shoving him away and standing up. I grasp the headboard noticing I was still in my dress. "You expect that to be off."

"Yeah, but I got to go now. I have school and all."

"You need to know something before you do that."

"What?"

"They found Jason body so if we leave we have to do it now before everyone gets back in town."

"Well let's go," I tell him and he stands following me.

I slip my heels back on and he holds onto my arm. A small but gentle gesture.

"I am so, so sorry, Betty. I don't know what happened to me that night. It was such a basic bitch move. It was like I was possessed by..." Roni trials off in her terrible apology.

"Satan?" Kevin offers.

"No. The old Veronica." I tell them walking inside.

"Kate," Roni says seeming surprised.

"I promise Betty she will never do this again. I swear it. I'll actually make sure of it."

"Y-Yeah. I swear on my mother's pearls, Betty. Please, can you give me one more chance?"

"Okay."

"What?" Kevin and Roni say in disbelief.

I chuckle at this smiling a thanks to Betty. My sister did cry to me when I got back home. She was devastated by that little fallout. Though I find it annoying, to say the least, but what the hell, right? Different people, different views, and different emotions.

"Really? Awesome. I'll take it and you won't regret it. And I'll bring these to lunch so we can celebrate."

We turn leaving the office and heading to our lockers. I had called in the order since the baker owes me a favor. I'm glad I got them to her in time. Roni seems happier now.

"Where were you Friday night?"

"I told you I fell asleep in a motel."

"I don't believe that."

"Well too bad."

"I checked your card. No money was taken off."

"I have cash, Roni. Don't worry I don't like being tracked." I tell her.

It's true I hate it. That's why I withdraw tons of money before I spend it. I hardly ever use my card. Especially since Dad went to jail.

"Good morning, students. This is your principal speaking. There have been many inquiries about the upcoming pep rally. So let me state clearly, it is happening, as scheduled. Now, on a less felicitous note, if you could give your attention to Sheriff Keller." Weatherbee says through the speakers.

"Most of you already know the details, but your classmate Jason Blossoms body was found late Saturday night. So as of the weekend, Jason's death is now being treated as a homicide. It is an open and ongoing investigation."

I glance down at my phone seeing FP still on the line. I had only called to discuss business before this came on.

"And may I interject, neither I nor my parents will rest until Jason's death is avenged, and if his cold-hearted killer is walking the green mile to sit in Old Sparky and fry. I, for one, have my suspicions. Hashtag Riverdalestrong." Cheryl finish and I roll my eyes.

"If you know anything that could help us find and apprehend Jason's killer or anything about what happened to him on July 4th, I strongly urge you to come forward immediately. You can speak with me or Principal Weatherbee. A death like this wounds us all. Let's not let Jason down." The announcement ends as I make my way to my locker to grab my books.

"Wow very subtle of them. Telling this to teens who are already grieving."

"This is clearly what they do. Now listen about the items."

"I know. You don't have it. Your mom does. That's why the Serpents are watching her."

"Forsythe you can't hurt my mom."

"We're not gonna hurt her. I promise."

"Don't make me kill your boy."

"Kat." His voice drops dangerously as he becomes protective.

I smirk closing my locker. "I'll call after my practice."

"What practice?"

"The Vixens practice."

"You're a River Vixen." His voice sounds amused as he speaks.

"Shut up. It's not my choice. Look I got to go. Bye."

"Yeah alright. Bye Kat."

I hang up as I walk into the classroom. Oh, Science. Somehow I end up getting Jughead. We only talked when we had to but I did admire him. He reminds me of his dad. Of course, I already know Jughead was a Jones by looking into FP file my dad had on him. Hell, he's separated from his ass of a wife. I wonder... if he had the chance would he get back together with her. The scalpel I have smashed into the frog in front of us.

"Woah there," Jughead says with a chuckle.

"Sorry," I mumble dragging the scalpel through the frog thickish flesh.

"What's on your mind?" He asks me. Your dad.

"My dad," I tell him setting the scalpel down on a paper towel.

"It'll get better."

"Yeah. I know that. He has a good lawyer." He nods and I list the organs of the dead frog.
