Miles slowly got up from the big chair behind his desk and rubbed his tired eyes. He had been working since the early morning and the fights he had with the sleep trying to take over him was at least brutal. He literally fell asleep on the desk twice and was woken up by a call or another unwanted sound of his phone. He's never wanted to drive back home in such state, but he forced himself to do that a couple of times, as the thought of sleeping in the same flat as Alex seemed stressful.
A lot of people told him that day to take some sleep, but he just kept shaking his head no. Unfortunately, he had to agree he needed it eventually.
He approached the door of his office and weakly pressed the handle, which in that moment seemed like it weighed a tone. It helped Miles realise that indeed driving home would be like asking for a certain accident.

Alex was slicing meat and had already cut his fingers twice. He's never been good at cooking, but after he moved out from Nick, he had to learn how to fix something to eat.
The grip on the knife tightened, when he heard the door opened. He slowly headed to the hallway and when he met with the man there, they both let out a loud gasp.
"I'm sorry to bother you, but I'm really tired and I thought driving back home would be highly irresponsible." The information was confirmed by a yawn. The man covered his mouth and apologized. "Could I stay here for the night? I'll sleep on the sofa."
Alex hesitated, as Miles coming there of his own will was the last thing he had expected, but eventually nodded. Kane thanked with a single nod and hung his jacket on a rack.
"Would you like to eat with me? I'm making pasta." The boy shyly asked and told himself off in his mind for not adding 'sir'.
"No, thank you. I've eaten." Normally, he would never call a coffee and a donut a meal, but in that case, it was enough.
He passed by Alex and went to a walk-in closet to grab a towel and underwear.
The boy, after he snapped out of it, got back to the kitchen and to cooking. He slightly turned his head when he heard the door opened and stared covertly at the man crossing the living room, till he disappeared behind the bathroom's door.
All of Turner's thoughts were focused on Kane, and the pasta on a pan was the last thing he could thing about then. And not focusing on it was quite a big mistake.

Hot shower woke Miles a little bit, but it couldn't measure up to the loud scream that came out of the other room. The speed of his actions immediately increased and just a couple of seconds later, he was out of the shower, with a towel around his hips.
Alex was in a quite shock, so he noticed the older only when he was standing next to him. Kane quickly put the boy's burnt arm under the cold water and ordered him to hold it there. Then he went to the bathroom again, found a first-aid kit and put on briefs, as walking around in a towel was likely to get Miles end up naked.
"You have to hold it under water for at least fifteen minutes." He told Alex, and opened the box, looking for a bandage. "How did you do that?"
"I spilled the hot water when I was straining the pasta." The boy said quietly, ashamed of his amazingly poor cooking skills. Or rather his clumsiness. "Did you find someone for my position?" He asked a while after, taking the advantage of the man's presence.
"I wasn't even looking for anyone. I didn't know you still wanna quit."
"I can't live here." Turner didn't say he wanted to quit cause he obviously didn't. He'd never find a better job than this, and even though the thoughts about his ex-boss were killing him inside, it would be just dumb to quit such an amazing job. Yet, he couldn't live in someone's flat for free.
"Why is that?"
"It's yours."
"I let you stay. And you still can." Kane was getting irritated with all the boy's questions and even afraid what the next one could be. He didn't know what exactly was scared of, but he couldn't fell otherwise but uncomfortable.
"Why d-" Alex started but almost immediately the older cut in, asking about something the boy would've never expected.
"Do you still love him?" Miles said in one breath, and started at Alex until he got an answer.
"I-" The words got stuck inside Turner's throat, whatever they were, since at that moment the boy wasn't sure at all what to say. "I don't know. I-I miss him." The eyes, bored into the floor till then, moved at the man who then was the one who started at the floor. "W-why?"
"I wanted to show how inappropriate questioning is." The man stated and got up, grabbing a bandage.
"Sorry." The boy said lowering his head to show the shame.
Miles ignored the apology and approached him to look at the wound he grimaced at. "It's gonna be okay." He assured Alex, though the impression of his face was rather showing that it didn't look good. He turned off the tap and grabbed the others hand, moving his arm closer. He cleaned up the burnt skin with a pad, which made Alex let out a couple of groans, and started bandaging the forearm.
"Thank you." The boy said in the meantime and was answered with a single nod.
"I'll call Josh you won't come to work." The man stated when he was done.
"No, it's okay! I can come!" The boy protested. "I'm fine."
Miles smiled. "Your arm doesn't seem fine." Alex pouted and Miles' smile got even wider. "You need to rest, he'll be okay if you skip a couple of days."
"But-"
"No buts." Kane's tone got more serious and Turner went silent. "Okay?"
Alex nodded. He was mad at him self for being like this, especially after what Miles did, but his nature wasn't willing to let him man up.
Before he went to bed, he proposed Kane to sleep in the bedroom, but the older obviously disagreed and told him to take the bed.
Alex started work earlier than Miles, so when he got up, the man was still sleeping. After putting on some t-shirt, he quietly, trying not to interrupt the other, went to the kitchen.
He made himself breakfast, but after thinking about how protective Miles was yesterday, he decided to fix something for him too.
After placing the food on a glass table next to the sofa, where Kane was peacefully sleeping, he went to the bedroom to change.
When he left, the man wasn't in the living room, but he noticed the lights  in the bathroom were on, which gave away his location.
"Hi." The older said when he left the room, already fully dressed, and the other answered with the same.
"I made you breakfast."
The man smiled and sighed. "You're too good for this world."
Alex slightly blushed and a smiled, but when he realised something, the smile disappeared. "But... not good enough for you."
"I-" Miles stumbled, clearly surprised by the conclusion. "I didn't say that."
"But you bumped me!" The boy shouted reproachfully, but as his voice had been always soft and quiet it didn't quite sound like a yell.
"I told you I had to." Kane answered pursed his eyebrows and though he scared the younger with his tone, Alex didn't give in and decided to finally get the reason why Miles acted that way.
"But why did you cut me off?! Like we were nothing!" His voice was sad, and he truly felt like he was about to cry.
"Because I fucking love you, Alex! Do you think it was fun to hear you constantly talking about your boyfriend?! My heart broke every time you said his name! That's fucking why!" The man yelled so loudly that it could seem like the everyone in the building heard him. Alex's mouth opened but he didn't say anything. Miles stared at him for some seconds, but then he quickly headed to the exit.
"W-wait." Turner stumbled, but the older didn't stop; he opened the door and slammed it behind him.
