Chapter Twenty-Three

Sara, River and Sand seemed to react rather well. Instead of being angry with Carrot, they had comforted her.

"I'll find that Liam and claw his ears off!" Sand growled. "How dare he do that to my sister?"

"If i've taught you anything, i'm sure you'll be a great mother," Sara reasurred.

"Thank you for being brave enough to tell us, Carrot," River praised.

Once night had fallen, Snowflake curled up next to James and drifted to sleep.

But James had woken her up later.

Feeling a wave of deja-vu wash over her, Snowflake looked up at James. "What is it?"

"I want to go on a nostalgia walk," James replied. "You coming with?"

Snowflake shrugged. "Sure, but this time, we're getting back home before morning."

James's whiskers twitched. "Alright." He eventually led her back to the creepy, rotten wooden house they had spent the night in when they were youngcats.

"Woah, this is nostalgia," Snowflake meowed.

"Yeah," James responded, looking around. Then he looked at Snowflake and smiled. He pressed against her and, in a high-pitched voice, said "Oh, James! Save me! The floor creaked! Save me!"

Snowflake bumped him with a shoulder. "I hope the raccoon comes back to get you for that," she joked. In a deep voice, she said "Don't worry, i'll protect you, I am a mighty beast and all raccoons fear me! I cannot die!"

James laughed. "Have you ever thought about your future? Like, what you'll do with your life?"

Snowflake blinked, a little surprised by the sudden topic. "Yeah, a lot. I wanted to help Glow find someone new, but I guess that's not happening. I decided everything after Snuggle died."

James nodded.

"I plan to bring prey to Blizzard every day until she dies," Snowflake went on. "I'll congratulate Bird and Cocoa on their kittens.." She trailed off into silence.

James's tail flicked. "What future did you plan with me?"

Snowflake looked at him. "What future did you plan?"

They stared at each other.
