Snowflake's Story

Chapter Twenty-Eight

"Snowflake! Snowflake, wake up, kitten!"

It had been a month since Glow had left to explore the world. Now Cocoa's meow woke Snowflake from her dream; it had been the field full of flowers again.

"What is it, Cocoa?" Snowflake groaned drowsily.

"Bird's given birth to our kittens! Come see!"

Snowflake jolted awake, excited to see the kittens of her friends. She ran over to Bird as quick as possible and gazed in wonder at the newborn kittens.

Bird was asleep, and so were the kittens she was curled around. One was a chocolate-colored queen, and the other was a brown tabby tomcat.

"Oh, see the chocolate one? She looks just like me!" Cocoa purred. "The other one looks like Bird! Aren't they just adorable?"

Snowflake nodded. James was now standing beside her.

"If only Glow were here to see this!" Cocoa squealed.

"I'm sure Glow is looking at a beautiful lake and saying the same thing about us," James replied.

Snowflake and Cocoa nodded.

"C'mon," Snowflake meowed, nudging James. "Let's let Bird rest."

"I'll stay here," Cocoa promised, laying down next to Bird's sleeping body.

Snowflake nodded. "Tell me when you name them."

They had eventually named the chocolate queen Hershey, who's eyes turned out to be amber, like Bird's. The brown tabby tomcat became Branch, who's eyes turned out to be golden, like Cocoa's. Branch was also revealed to have an extra toe like Cocoa.

The next day, Blizzard had started coughing a lot.

Snowflake padded over. "Blizzard? What's wrong?"

"Oh, just a little cough, sweetie," she replied before bursting into another fit of coughs.

"It's not 'little,'" Snowflake replied. "You need some fresh prey and sleep."

Blizzard shook her head. "I'll be fine."

But Snowflake was already picking out a raven from the pile of prey in the middle of the room.
