"I need to talk to you."
Snowflake woke up the next morning. It was strange, she didn't feel.. Sad. She had already suffered Glow leaving her. She gathered Cocoa, Bird and James together, bracing herself to give her friends the news.
Once they set out on a walk (after Cocoa and Bird making sure that Falcon would watch Hershey and Branch), Snowflake opened her mouth to tell them.
But no words came out.
"What was so important, kitten?" Cocoa meowed.
Snowflake let out a long sigh. It would be easier to blurt it out..
"Glow is dead."
Bird's hackles raised in shock, her eyes widening. "How do you know?"
"He visited me in a dream last night," Snowflake replied.
"How?" Cocoa leaned in with interest, but his golden eyes showed sadness.
"Dogs.."
"Where? Can we find his corpse and bury it?" James asked desperatley.
Snowflake shook her head, not recognizing anything in the field. "He's too far away."
"He traveled far, like he wanted.." Cocoa looked at his paws.
The group turned silent.
Suddenly, the water below them began to roar as it ran up to them rapidly.
James's yellow eyes showed fear as he gripped Snowflake's tail tip with his teeth.
Snowflake pushed on the ground to get away from the water as quick as possible.
"Bird!"
Cocoa's desperate yowl came from beside James and Snowflake. The water had snatched Bird, and Cocoa was holding onto her paw with all his might. His claws were unsheathed to grip her paw harder. Bird looked at him with wide, desperate eyes.
The water roared again.
Bird was gone.
