Chapter 2

Raven

We ride a cab going to Sunny's family. I'm freaking nervous about this. What if they don't trust me anymore? Or worse, they will not let me and Sunny be together?

"Relax ka lang ang stiff mo," she gently pressed my shoulder.

"Amore, it's just that I'm thinking of the possibilities." Tumawa lang siya tila inaasar pa ako.

"Ngayon ko lang nakitang ganito ka Vierci." Okay, she's teasing me.

"Yeah..." But I'm freaking serious about this! I'm nervous, and there's no shortcut to explain everything at all. 

We arrived at exactly 2 p.m. at their house. Sunny is holding my hand while walking inside. We're about to knock when the door opens.

"Uni! Dyosko! Alam mo bang nag-alala ako sayo nang sobra?" Inang hugs Sunny while crying. I made them worried about Sunny...

"Inang okay lang ako—okay lang ako. Kasama ko na siya." Her sweet voice melted my heart the way she talks about me.

I breathe heavily before reaching for Inang's hand, giving my respect to her. I know my hands are shaking; she just patted my head.

"Halina muna kayo dito." Naunang umupo si Sunny tsaka niya ako hinala sa tabi niya.

"Kukuha lang ako ng maiinom." Inang left us and went to the kitchen.

Ilang minuto pa lang akong nakaupo, and I swear, Hindi na ako mapakali. I feel like my death sentence is coming. What the hell is wrong with me?

"Relax, Raven, ano ka ba?" Tinapik-tapik niya ang hita ko para pakalmahin ako.

"Paano magre-relax yan? Eh, nasampal ko yan ng dalawang beses."

Parehas kaming nagulat ni Sunny nang biglang sumulpot si Kim. She's still wearing her dress, Kanina sa Simbhan.

"Ano? Sinampal mo si Raven?! Kim naman!" I hold Sunny's hand to make her stop.

"No, it's okay, Sunny. I deserve it, so don't get mad." I assured her that everything is fine, even the slap.

"Humanda ka sakin, Cruz!" nagmake face lang siya kay Sunny. She sat in front of us while holding a glass of juice.

"Nandito kanina ang family ni Jake, hinahanap ka. Hindi namin masagot dahil hindi rin namin alam kung saan ka ba pumunta." I saw Sunny bow her head.

"Anak, eto kumain na muna kayo." Si Inang, sabay lapag ng pagkain sa center table.

"Bakit nawala ka bigla Raven? Ang alam namin ay patay ka na." Hindi ako nakaligtas sa matalim na mata ni Kim.

"Kim, I was..." I can't find my words. How can I explain? How can I explain everything?

"Kailangan niyang umuwi sa Italy nang biglaan dahil may nangyaring hindi maganda sa negosyo nila doon. Pero habang pauwi, na aksidente siya sa sasakyan, na comatose ng tatlong taon at nagrehab ng isang taon. Pinaliwanag na sa akin ni Raven lahat. Kim, Inang, napatawad ko na po siya kaya sana mapatawad niyo na rin siya...h-hindi niya gustong mawala sadyang aksidente lang."

Wala akong magawa, and I can't think either; what should I say?

Suddenly Inang looked at me and said, "Totoo ba lahat ng ito, hija?"

"Y-yes, totoo po." I can't look at her straight in the eye.

"Bakit may letter na natanggap si Sunny sinasabing patay kana?" Kim is really into the topic, but we can't tell everything; we need to lie.

"Akala ng stepfather ko hindi na ako gigising pa. He knows how much I love Sunny; that's why he sent a letter of my farewell."

That day I thought I'm going to die. The chemicals that burn inside my body—cold sweat, blood coming from my mouth—pain every part of my being. But I made it. I got home to where I belong.
