I lay on my back, sunbathing near the waterfall we had found. There was a pool of drinkable water that lay beneath it, and that's currently where Clarke and Finn were. To be honest, I was sensing some sort of tension between the two of them. I wasn't one to stand in their way, that and I was the odd one out. So that's why I found a spot in the sun that was within hearing distance of them.
It was turning out to be one of the most peaceful moments I've had on earth so far. That is, if you don't count the fact we were searching for Jasper. How my life had changed so quickly was beyond me. I had never been a social butterfly, and now I was constantly surrounded by people who would see every move I made. I wasn't a fan, but couldn't complain. There was safety in numbers, and we needed it if the grounders really were to pose a threat.
I felt a shadow blocking the sun and I shot up from my sunbathing spot. It could be a grounder for all I know. In the process of doing so, I somehow managed to trip forwards. I felt the skin of my knees scrape the hard ground beneath me, even through my pants. Knowing I drew blood when I felt the stickiness on the knees of my jeans, I winced.
"Is this going to happen every time I'm near?"
Bellamy Blake watched me carefully from where he towered over me. I accepted the hand he offered, and stood on my feet. He looked down at my knees, and narrowed his eyes. I too looked down, and sighed when I saw the knees on my jeans now had rips in them. Clothes didn't grow on trees down here, and it was a shame they were already ripped.
"You should be more careful," He snapped.
"Well you should stop being such an asshole, but that's never going to happen," I retorted. He always had to ruin things with his big mouth. His expression was even angrier if that was possible. "Are you always in a constant state of aggression? Because if so you should see a therapist."
I wasn't normally like this, but the look on his face and his presence alone had me blabbering on to avoid the unfamiliar feeling in my chest.
"No, I just don't want to have to be concerned about saving your ass once we find goggle boy," he said in a serious voice. "You seem to lack basic coordination."
This was true and all, but I didn't take it well coming from him. He really had no reason to even be concerned with me, as I hadn't asked for his protection.
"That doesn't mean I can't take care of myself!" I snapped back.
His lips suddenly turned up in a smirk. That was one thing I had noticed about him, that he never smiled. He had only ever gotten close to smiling with his smirk.
"We'll see Kitten," he replied.
I saw movement over Bellamy's shoulder and moved my head to get a better view, and saw Murphy and Wells standing there watching. I should have figured Murphy wouldn't have gone far from his master.
"You got a problem?" Murphy questioned eyebrows raised, when he saw my eyes on him.
I moved my head so he was again blocked by Bellamy's figure, but that didn't have the desired effect. I really wasn't in the mood to deal with his attitude in addition to Bellamy.
"You think Bellamy cares enough to hide you from me?" Murphy laughs. I kept an even expression even though I could feel my legs shaking. "Not so tough anymore, are you?"
I cringed, and wondered what he did to get locked in the skybox. He had a terrible attitude, and all because I interrupted a fight. I didn't go looking for a fight, which is why I knew when to choose my battles.
