My head pounded, but I was still able to push through the fuzzy feeling in my head to hear a loud buzzing sound. Everyone else had apparently heard it as well, and the commotion of camp was very loud.
"Violet," I heard a voice yell at me. "Get up!"
I looked over to find Octavia standing near the entrance of the tent, staring at the sky. Groaning, I quickly threw on my pants. I didn't bother taking the time to pull my t-shirt over my head, wanting to know what was going on.
I came to stand beside her, and saw what looked like a dropship falling through the sky. It's shape was getting closer with each passing second, and so was the sound it made as it passed through our atmosphere.
"What the hell?" I questioned out loud, looking a Octavia. "It has to be the Ark!"
She gave me a curious look and was clearly thinking the same thing as me.
"Bellamy, get out here," Octavia yelled not taking her eyes off the sky.
I stilled, suddenly remembering what we did last night. I could still feel his lips on mine, and the butterflies that suddenly filled my stomach were uncontrollable. We left things off in a questionable way, so I wasn't sure how he'd be the next time we talked.
I heard his footsteps from outside, and my hands got sweaty. I turned to look at him, and my mouth almost dropped open at the sight.
There he was next to me. Shirtless. I tried not to ogle him, but I couldn't help but admire his muscled torso. He didn't seem to have even one flaw on his perfectly tanned body, and it was hard to control the direction of my thoughts.
"There," Octavia points to the sky to show her brother what she was referring to. He follows her hand up to the sky with a shocked expression.
The dropship suddenly released a parachute in the sky and was descending in the surrounding forest. It couldn't be more than a couple miles away from here.
I turned to see Bellamy glance over at me, and my cheeks heated up.
What did he think about last night?
I shook my head quickly, looking back at the descending dropship.
"They've come to help!" I heard someone say. "Now we can kick some grounder ass!"
I wondered if that was possible. We were in desperate need of it if we were indeed under attack from the grounders. I couldn't help but be hopeful at our future down here and the success of coming back to earth.
I giggled, hoping this was good news. My giggling was contagious and I soon heard others around me share their excitement too.
I looked back over at Bellamy to find a nervous look on his face.
Wasn't he happy they sent down help for him?
Not long after we saw the dropship land a few miles from our location, I found myself following close behind Bellamy back to his tent along with Octavia and Jake. This was after I put my shirt and jacket on.
"If it cleared the ridge, it's probably near the lake." Jake said to Bellamy, who looked like he was thinking hard about the situation.
I nodded my head, glad it hadn't landed further.
"We should head out, everyone's ready." Octavia calls out looking at me.
I turned to her and nodded, anxious to leave.
"No one's going anywhere" I heard Bellamy say forcefully, making me stop in my tracks. I turned my head in his direction unbelievingly. "Not while it's dark it isn't safe."
"You're kidding me, right?" I reply.
"No," he replies as he meets my eyes. "We head out at first light, that's the word."
Jake nods, and heads out to report to the waiting crowd. On the way out he squeezes my arm, sensing my apprehension about the plan.
For some reason I felt uncomfortable with him doing that in front of Bellamy, whose watching eyes had narrowed at the exchange.
"What was that about?" Bellamy asks, taking a step closer to me. His eyes looked two shades darker, and if I didn't know better he seemed jealous.
"Nothing," I say quietly. I needed him to know there was nothing between Jake and I, but I couldn't bring out the words with Octavia watching closely at my side. "But maybe for once, you should listen to me about what to do."
His eyes stayed searching mine for a couple seconds, not straying for a second. His lips suddenly turned up at the end, and his signature smirk graced his lips. I knew my cheeks were beet red from his simple attention, and I cursed myself for the effect he had on me. He takes a step even closer, ignoring the fact that Octavia was still in this same tent.
"Maybe for once you should stop being such a pain in my ass." He replies quickly. "Don't think I haven't noticed you always disobey my orders."
"You're delusional if you think you're in charge of me," I try to sound strong and unaffected at his close proximity, but I know I fall short when his smirk doesn't fall.
He didn't reply, but neither of us bothered increasing the distance between us.
He broke eye contact and our connection was lost when Octavia cleared her throat awkwardly, and headed toward the door. However, before he could make it out Octavia had blocked his way.
"What if the grounders get to the ship first?" She says, returning the subject to our previous discussion. "Bell, we should go now."
He avoided eye contact with her, not seeming to even hear what she was saying.
"I said we wait until morning," He said, and quickly pushed past her.
She didn't waste any time turning around to me, her eyes zeroing in on my nervous frame. We hadn't a moment alone since she had walked in on Bellamy and I getting close, and I'm sure she was searching for an explanation.
"What the hell is going on between you and my brother?" She replies.
Well crap, that girl didn't waste ANY time.
