I stood near the campfire after Bellamy had gone to talk to Octavia. My body still felt warm from when it had been flush against his. I couldn't get over Bellamy's bipolar attitude towards me. He hated me, it was clear. He only tolerated me because of Octavia, I'm sure. I wasn't sure how I felt about him, but it felt good to be close and I knew I wanted him.
"Hey," I heard someone say from next to me. I had been so engrossed in my thoughts I hadn't even heard them approach.
I looked over to find another boy a couple inches taller than me. He had sandy blonde hair, and was handsome. He was smiling. He had a nice smile, I thought.
I gave a shy smile in return, and waved.
"Violet, right?"
I raise my eyebrows, wondering how he knew my name.
"It's kind of hard not to know who you are." He replied, smirking. I again raised my eyebrows confused, before he replied, "The boss always talks about how you annoy the hell out of him whenever you're around."
"The boss?" I reply.
"Bellamy." He states as if it were obvious. "Plus, it doesn't hurt you're beautiful."
I'm sure I blushed, I had never received any type of attention like that. When I had been on the ark, I had had only one boyfriend. We had only kissed once before his parents found out. They had a strict no-dating policy until he was an established member of the ark. It was refreshing to have another boy's interest. Not that I was going to let him do anything about it...
"What's your name?"
"Jake," He answered, his smile as wide as ever.
"So, you work for Bellamy, Jake?"
"I guess so," he replied. "But I wouldn't call it working for him. He's promised all of us a role in leadership."
"Doesn't it ever get tiring, having to kiss his ass all the time?"
He laughed loudly, and others were beginning to look over.
"I mean come on, the guy does have a stick up his butt. He's always handing out orders, or yelling at someone." I state, but with a smile on my face.
He stared at me for a minute, and I was worried I had gone too far. After all, he was one of Bellamy's followers. But he eventually responded.
"I like you Violet, you're not afraid to say what you feel." His eyes met mine, once again, and it felt nice. Maybe he could become another friend down here.
I spent the next few minutes making conversation with Jake, and I learned he got down here because he had hit another man on the ark who had hit his mother. A crime that I understood, that I couldn't blame him for. I explained why I had been brought down here, and it didn't feel weird to tell him. I figured because I had shared with people before that it was only going to get easier. He even held my hand as I explained what happened.
I looked up when I saw Octavia run out towards the campfire. I thought she might have been running to me, but was mistaken when she ran towards something hidden in the shadows. It was a blanket that had been thrown over something. I hadn't noticed it until now, and I was worried.
"Octavia," Bellamy called out, trying to get ahead of her.
I mindlessly forgot the boy with the nice smile beside me, to go up and hold onto Octavia's hand.
