It was completely silent in the dropship for several moments after impact. It was probably the shock, I told myself. I squeezed my eyes shut and took a few deep breaths, realizing we had made it.
It seemed all at once the chatter started up again, and everyone was rushing to get to the lower level. I was unsure of what to do next, until I felt a hand grab mine and squeeze. I looked over to find Octavia giving me a small smile. She pulled me through the crowd and eventually we made it to the ladder.
I descended first, looking over a crowd of bodies all being pushed back by a boy in a guard's uniform. I ended up slipping near the bottom and landing flat on my butt. Thankfully not many had noticed, except a kid with googles who just laughed and sent me a friendly wink.
I quickly turned my attention back to the boy. Had they sent a guard down with us? He immediately sparked my interest, while he looked to be older than most of us, he couldn't be more than a few years older than me. I could also see that he had a beautiful olive skin tone. His hair was slicked back with gel, but I knew it would look much different once it came out. Much more attractive even, if that was possible. Light freckles dotted his face, and an almost smirk graced his lips. He was about to pull the lever to what I assumed was the door, when I heard a voice yell from behind me "Stop!"
Clarke pushed herself through everyone to reach where he was standing, with me following a few paces behind as not to be noticed. "The air could be toxic," she snapped at the beautiful boy.
"If the airs toxic, we're all dead anyway," He replied casually, and turned again to pull the lever.
"Bellamy?" I head a familiar voice say. I saw the boy named Bellamy freeze a second before turning around to face the girl I had met earlier. As Octavia weaved through the crowd, I could see her spirit lifting with each step. She finally reached him, and I watched, curious to see what he meant to her.
"My god, look how big you are," he said, his voice softened. After that, she pulled him in for a tight embrace.
"What the hell are you wearing?" Octavia questioned, looking down at his clothes after she pulled away. "A guard's uniform?"
"I borrowed it to get on the drop ship," he stated, and then smiled. "Someone's got to keep an eye on you."
"Where's your wristband?" Clarke asked, interrupting their reunion.
"Do you mind? I haven't seen my brother in a year." Octavia said as she whipped around to face Clarke. I gasped in shock. The Ark had a one child rule, and bad things happen when you break the Ark's rules. People shouted things in disbelief.
"No one had a brother!" one shouted.
"That's Octavia Blake" someone else replied. "The girl they found hidden in the floor!"
She rushed forward, ready for an attack, only to be held back by Bellamy.
"Why don't you all shut up?" I asked, finding my voice. I normally would never speak in front of this many people, let alone even be heard. However, I could tell this was a sensitive subject for her. She turned and gave me a small smile, while her brother Bellamy only regarded me with suspicion.
He turned to her, smirked and said, "Let's give them something else to remember you by. Like being the first person on the ground in 100 years."
She nodded quickly, and he pulled the lever down. Light soon filled the dark dropship, blinding all of us for a couple seconds. The second I regained my vision, I knew my life would be changed forever. Never had I ever felt the breeze on my skin, and now it made my hair move behind me. I saw towering trees and beautiful green forest around me, but I didn't want to be the first to step forward. My first deep breath of air on earth smelled of dirt and trees, and it was remarkable.
