Stevie's six week appointment soon rolled round, getting Noah into his buggy her and Lindsey walked from the car into see the doctor, they were called in pretty fast, sitting down and answering some questions
"Right, let's check out little one shall we?" Stevie placed Noah onto the examination table and watched as he was checked over, she couldn't look when his hips and joints were being tested, terrified that they were hurting her baby boy
"Well he seems incredibly healthy, and very strong boned, you might find that he will start to walk a little sooner than other children his age"
"That's amazing, we've tried to do the exercises we were given and he seemed to really enjoy those!"
"That's amazing! Right shall we get to your tests now?"
"Sure, why do you need me to do?" She asked, passing Noah over to Lindsey to hold
"We of course have the waist down portion, making sure everything has healed properly, especially since you've had an unconventional birth experience, but I'd like to get a urine same. It's all routine so please don't feel like there is anything wrong with you. This is for all new mothers. New motherhood is a strange and interesting time. Your body has just grown a tiny, adorable human being and you're now adjusting to life as part of a unit. You're nursing, you're staying active and maybe your outlook has possibly changed. You answered our questionnaire in the waiting room and it asked you questions about your baby as well as yourself. Your health is justa s important as your baby's. Do you have any more questions before I send you into the bathroom?"
"No, thank you for explaining" Stevie said.
"Alrighty, well dad can take care of your baby boy and before you know it you will be heading home with a clean bill of health."
Stevie smiled, taking the sample cup from the doctor, waving bye-bye to her men.
Stevie was soon back in the room with her sample, handing it to the doctor who put a special strip into it, talking to the pair whilst he waited
"So has there been any issues?"
"No none, I've been pretty healthy really, a couple of sick points but I'm tired from three am diaper changes!" Stevie chuckled, the doctor agreeing, then talking about Noah for a few minuets, looking down at the strip and doing a double take
"Well you look to be healthy from the sample, but I'm disappointed that you two chose to ignore my no sex period, whilst you healed!" Stevie and Lindsey looked at each other
"How do you know from a sample?"
"I know, because you're just over three weeks pregnant!"
"Come again" Lindsey said, looking at Stevie who stared back at him, open mouthed.
"That's, that's impossible. It took two years of hormone shots to have our son and now..."
"Stephanie, our bodies are amazing things. Sometimes the first time is difficult then after that, it's easy."
"Apparently" Lindsey said, laughing nervously. Stevie shot him a look and he threw his gaze to their baby in his arms.
"I can write you a prescription for vitamins and we will monitor you closely. Please don't think something will definitely go wrong but you are higher risk due to how closely you conceived after birth." Stevie touched her stomach as the doctor spoke, her wide eyes barely blinking. The pelvic exam followed and Stevie was still in shock, hardly registering when the doctor left. Lindsey had to prompt her to sit up and put her jeans back on.
"Lets go honey" Lindsey said "We can pick up your script on the way home"
"I don't understand" Stevie said, "I just..."
"Try not to think about it" Lindsey told her, kissing her forehead as he took her hand, their young son cradled in his other arm.
Getting home Stevie was still quite silent, not really listening to anything Lindsey was saying, and giving short answers when she was asked a question. Eventually she spoke of her own accord
"How are we supposed to give Noah the attention he needs when there's another baby on the way?" She asked nervously biting her nails
"I'm sure we'll manage Steph! We're good parents we will be just fine."
"God...this wasn't supposed to happen! I thought we'd be safe." She said
"Well we weren't and now we're having another baby, so we just need to deal with that fact." He told her honestly
"You're angry aren't, or upset...you can tell me, I can deal with that too" Stevie said, tears finally falling down her cheeks.
"Oh, sweetheart, no!" Lindsey said, placing the baby down as he was in his car seat carrier. He wrapped his arms around his wife and rubbed her back. "I'm not angry or upset at all. You're pregnant, and we did it all on our own. No shots, no pills, no timed intercourse. It was all us, baby."
"I just don't understand..." she sobbed.
"I know you're shocked and you're hormonal from having Noah plus being pregnant again but I promise, this will all work out."
"The doctor seemed so disappointed in me" Stevie said, continuing to cry.
"He wasn't, I'm sure it was a joke. You're sensitive because you felt like you did something wrong but you didn't, angel. I'm so incredibly proud of you and your amazing body." Lindsey told her, kissing her neck and shoulder. "Please don't cry. I want so badly for you to be happy about this."
"I'll try" Stevie sniffed and pulled away from him, wiping her eyes with the back of her hand.
"Is there anything I can do for you? Would you like a cup of tea or something to eat?" she nodded, and Lindsey smiled.
"I'm so excited to start taking care of you again like I did with Noah. I love to watch you grow." Once again, Stevie was in full blown tears. "Did I do something?"
"No, you're just so sweet and I love you so much"
"I love you too. Why don't you put Noah to bed in his room and I will make you something to snack on, okay?"
"Okay" she said, wiping her ever flowing tears once more.
