Vanessa's POV
"Vanessa, Vanessa! Did you hear?" My best friend Jennifer rushed over to our table and flung her lunch tray down.
"Look look look!" She yanked my chin in a certain direction and pointed across the cafeteria.

"What are you pointing at?"

"Those two boys; The Dolan Twins, they're new here!"

"Why are they so special?" I questioned, focusing back on my lunch.

"Look at their faces Nessa! They're gorgeous!" I looked back at her still needing more reason to be as excited as she was.

"Come on, look again!" She insisted. I turned back to the boys and took time to study their faces. They both had sharp jaw lines, brown eyes, perfect eyebrows, nice lips, and beautiful smiles. The only difference I could see from here was the length of their hair.

"They are good looking." I had to admit. Jenny squealed.

"Why are you so happy about this? Look at them, and look at us, Jenny. They're probably already the most popular kids in school automatically, and we are the. exact. opposite."

"Be positive, Vanessa. Maybe they'll notice us."

"Be logical, Jenny. Just two more people to bother us."

She huffed. "When will you ever be happy?"

"When my brother and all his stupid jock friends die." I spat bitterly.

"Well... don't hold your breath."

Almost on command a masculine voice sounded from behind me.

"Move." It ordered. Without even turning my head I began to gather all the trash of my lunch I had around me. Jenny was already up without hesitation.

"Tick tock!" The voice pestered. Right as I finished gathering scraps, I turned around right into the jock that had been talking. His hand had hit my tray (not by accident I might add) causing all my food and trash to spill on the ground between us.

He laughed and shoved past me to sit down. All his friends followed him, including my brother.

"What a loser." My brother Will muttered to me with a smirk. It kills me that my own brother is the root of all this shit that happens to me on a daily basis.

"Are you alright?" Jenny asked worried as we scurried away.

"I'm fine. Im used to it." I answered, monotone. We went and found our favorite bench in the corner of the courtyard of our high school. No one ever really comes back there.

"Why does your brother treat you like dirt?" Jenny asked me once again.

"Jenny, we've been over this so many times, I... I don't know. We used to be best friends until... I guess he's just better than me." I ran a hand through my long, wavy black hair.

"How does he treat you at home?"

"He stays in his room or stays out with his friends all the time."

"Why don't you tell your mom how he is?"

"She is a single mom who is never home. It's useless."

"I'm sorry, Nessa." She said sincerely.

"Please don't apologize... it just makes me feel worse." The lunch bell rang and we both stood up.

"Meet me at my locker after school." I said to Jenny as we both started to walk away from each other. She nodded and turned away.

*****

I entered the password for my locker as Jenny walked up, swinging her backpack over her back.

"Hey."

"Hey." Just as I pulled my locker open, it flung right back closed with my finger in it. I screamed in pain and pulled my finger into my body.

"Oops." My brother chuckled as him and his squad passed.

"You asshole." I hissed so only he could hear. He stopped in his path and spun around on his heels.

"Excuse me?" He said as he slowly walked up to me. All my confidence immediately slipped away. Why am I kind of afraid of my own twin brother?

When I didn't respond, he chuckled and then slammed his hands on either side of my head against the lockers aggressively. He put his face inches away from mine and growled, "Don't start a fight you can't win, Vanessa."

Then he slowly stepped back away from me, him and his squad laughing. They all turned in sync and walked off, except two new faces that I recognized to be the twins. They looked at me with concern before Will called them and they followed him away.

I finished packing my stuff, and Jenny and I walked down the hall as if nothing had ever happened, like we always do.

"I'll see you on Monday, Jenny."

"I can't wait!" She squealed. I rolled my eyes saying, "bye." and walked to the parking lot where my car was supposed to be, but it was gone.

My brother and I share a car, but he always has it. I normally have to walk to and from school. It was about a mile, so, it is good exercise...I guess.
