*Thursday*

Ethan's POV
Valentine's Day is tomorrow. Grayson and I have been brainstorming a bunch of different ways I could surprise Vanessa and make it a romantic day. Mainly to keep our Dad off our minds.

His "Celebration of life" was on Sunday, and it wasn't as happy as it sounds. Obviously this has been really hard for my whole family to get over and the whole world has just been all doom and gloom recently. Hopefully Valentine's Day with Vanessa would be better.

"I know! You could buy her chocolates and a teddy bear and write a cute love note!" I rolled my eyes at Grayson's idea.

"That's basics. I know what to do!" I dragged Grayson to the store with me. I got a bouquet of roses, heart chocolates, and a teddy bear.

"This is literally what you said was basic!" Grayson snapped at me.

"Just wait and see what I'm going to do."

*Friday*
I showed up to school as early as they would allow me with Grayson. I covered Nessa's locker with red wrapping paper and stuck a roses to it that had my note to her tied on it. I put a lot of thought into that note. There's some really personal stuff in it and I can't wait for her to read it. I put the chocolates on the floor by the locker and placed some stray rose petals around them. In the end it looked really nice and my plan was to walk out with the bear and more roses after she saw her locker.

Soon the school started to get busy as people arrived for the day. I stood around the corner with Grayson as we went over the plan.

"You have to watch and see if she comes. When she does, go talk to her so she feels good. Then, send me the queue to come in. Sound good?" I asked. He nodded and we talked and waited.

"Check if she's here." I reminded Gray after a couple minutes. He peeped around the corner and his mouth dropped.

"Is she here?" He shook his head and waved me over. I came around the corner to see...

Vanessa's POV
I came in to school and worked my way through the halls to get to my locker. I haven't heard anything from E in a while, so I figured he's up to something sneaky. I tried not to smile and get my hopes up, but as I got to my locker, I didn't have a problem not smiling.

What looked like it was once cute was now... destroyed. There was torn wrapping paper stuck to my locker, a crumpled rose on the ground next to a box of open, empty chocolates. Obviously something went wrong. I pulled out my phone to call Ethan when I heard-

"Vanessa!" Grayson came over to me with Ethan by his side. E was holding a teddy bear and some roses, and he looked heart broken.

"What happened?" Grayson asked me.

"I don't know. I was trying to figure it out myself." I told him. "E?" I walked over to him and gave him a side hug as his eyes searched the messy floor.

"Who did this?" He choked out. I feel terrible. Obviously he tried to be sweet and romantic but someone ruined it. Someone... who wou-

"MATTHEW." Ethan muttered as anger came onto his face.

"How do you know?" Grayson asked.

"WHO ELSE WOULD RUIN A DAY LIKE THIS?!?!" Ethan shouted. He dropped the teddy bear and roses on the ground and stormed down the hall. Grayson and I rounded the corner just in time to see Ethan pin Matthew up against some lockers.

"What the fuck?"

"Don't play dumb like usual Matthew! Why the hell would you do something like that!" Ethan yelled, holding Matthews collar tight.
