*Monday*

Vanessa's POV
Today was the day that I had to face the entire school with Ethan. He kept telling me that we don't need other people's approval to be together, but I knew it wouldn't be that easy.

"Don't be nervous. Breathe." Ethan told me as he took my hand. We headed into the school and pushed the big front doors open. The second we walked in, comments started flowing.

"Oh that's cringe."

"Talk about desperate."

"Losers."

"That's the funniest shit I've seen all day!"

These words just rung in my head as they always do. I scrunched my eyes closed as we walked down the hallway to try and block them out like Ethan said.

"Don't listen." Ethan whispered without looking at me.

"I'm trying."

Ethan's POV
To be honest, more people were giving me shit than I expected, but I just let it roll off my shoulders. Vanessa and I made it through half the day pretty well, then lunch came around. We went to a table in the back of the cafeteria with Grayson and ate in peace... for a few minutes.

Everything would have gone fine if Matthew hadn't shown up.

"Yo, Dolan. See you got yourself a new toy!" Matthew smirked as he approached us.

"Who the fuck do you think you are? Girls aren't toys and Vanessa certainly isn't mine." I muttered.

"Oh, so that means she's up for grabs?" He looked past me and scanned Vanessa up and down, licking his lips. That pissed me off considering what he did to her at the party last Friday.

"Don't fucking look at my girl like that!" I yelled and lightly shoved him backwards. "She's mine. Better get that's through your small ass brain quickly." I hissed.

"E chill." Grayson pulled me back by my shoulder. By now the rest of the team had come behind Matthew. Will was there, he stood and watched with nothing but a smirk on his face.

"Put your hands on me one more time Dolan and see. What. Happens." Matthew muttered a few inches from my face.

"What are you gonna do?"

"I suggest you don't find out." Matthew replied.

"Ethan let's go." I felt Vanessa's hands wrap around my arm and gently pull me back. I hesitantly followed her and Grayson out to the courtyard, still heated.

"That was close Ethan, you know you don't stand a chance against him." Grayson said truthfully.

"Grayson I'm not gonna put up with that shit and you know it!" He had the nerve to talk about Vanessa like that after he scarred her for life on Friday.

"Ethan you have to calm down! Relax, just like you told me." Vanessa said softly and took my hand.

"Keep your cool bro." Gray finished. We went to a bench in the back of the school and hung out in peace till lunch was over.

*Tuesday*

Vanessa's POV
"So... what are you doing for your birthday?" Ethan nudged my shoulder with a smirk.

"How did you find out about that?" I whined.

"I have my ways."

"Well, it's on Friday... don't we have a date?"

"Oh that's right! I forgot!" Ethan said. I let my jaw drop. He started cracking up.

"I was kidding." We made it out to the parking lot to find Will at our car again.

"Will stop! I need the car!" I ran over to him.

"Doesn't Ethan have one?" He asked.

"I drove us here today." I argued.

"Would it kill ya to walk?" Will said as he turned started backing out.

"Would it kill you to give me the car?!?!" I argued back.

"Ummm... maybe next time." He laughed and sped out of the parking lot. I turned to Ethan and rolled my eyes.

"I guess we have to walk." I said in an annoyed tone.

"Let's make the most of it."

"How so?"

"Lets walk to the froyo place." Ethan smirked.

"Gladly." I smiled and took his hand and we made our way down the road.

Will's POV
After I got home, I did some homework and cleaned up the house a bit since no one else does.

I went to get the mail cause it probably hasn't been touched since mom was here last week.

When I got back inside, I sorted the bills from ads in case mom came to get them. As I was going through the big pile, I came across a lime green envelope. It was addressed to us from... Peter Gonzalez.

Shit.

Vanessa's POV
After I got home from froyo with Ethan, I did homework for an hour or two when I got a knock on my door.

"Come in."

When the door opened, Will stood there leaning on the door frame, and he didn't look okay, like he'd been crying or something. He normally never spoke to me at home... or school.

"Will? What's up?"

"I... just, um... have, because... well," He could barely even talk and he kept scratching his head.

"You can.... just, um... can use the car.... from now on." He barely spat out.

"What's wrong?" I got up from my desk and walked over to him. He sighed and pulled a green envelope from behind his back. I took it and pulled the card out.

Happy Birthday Will and Vanessa... thinking of you.

My hands started sweating as I read the card over and over again. My Dad, after 3 years of no contact what so ever, decided to send us a birthday card?

When I looked up, Will's eyes were full of tears.

"What is this?" I asked, a lump growing in my throat.

"He sent us a fucking birthday card!" Will shouted.

"Why?"

"I don't fucking know? He probably wants money or something!" Will was pissed.

"Maybe that's not true. Maybe he misses us." I tried to be positive, tears coming up in my eyes.

"Ya that makes sense." Will said sarcastically.

"Will why are you so upset?" He calmed down and went into a sad state.

"He ruined us Vanessa. Our family. Our friendship." Will said softly and his lip began to quiver.

"Will please don't cry, you'll make me cry." He cried anyway. I pulled him into a hug and he didn't resist.

"Vanessa I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry that I've been such an ass to you. For three fucking years I treated you like shit. I'm so. Fucking. Sorry." He cried on my shoulder.

"I've missed you Will. I've missed my brother." I cried. He sniffled and pulled away.

"Can things go back to the way they used to be?" He asked with promising eyes.

"Of course." I nodded. We both smiled and he left me to think in my room.

This isn't too good to be true.

I finally have my brother back.
