Opening in the water was hard, and it stung my eyes, but I still managed to see. The water was murky, a nasty brown with little dark bits in it, most likely seaweed. I turned to face the sun, which reflected off of the water and hurt my eyes to look at. I swam up, I was running out of air, and I was doing fine until I felt something brush against my leg.

I swam faster now, trying to ignore the tickling, the fact that whatever it was, it was wrapping itself around my ankles and crawling up my thighs.

I screamed, bubbles flying out of my mouth, trying desperately to kick the thing away.

And then the thing found my wrists, slithering up my arm like it was a ladder. These things, tentacles, were now reaching my shoulder, and it tugged and sent me further underwater.

I was choking now, even before the tentacles reached my neck and-

Crack.

I was awake now, rubbing my forehead. I had hit my head on the ceiling, and now a goosebump was forming.

I cursed under my breath and put on my glasses. I had the same dream three times in a row now, each getting progressively worse.

Last night, I drowned.

The night before that, I actually survived.

My mom was calling me down for breakfast.

I brushed my hair back into a loose ponytail and walked down the stairs. My mom took one look at me and sighed, putting a wet rag on my huge goosebump.

I ate while she did this, and it was silence except for the clinking of silverware against the plate.

My mom put down the wet rag. "We really need to sell that old bunk bed. How was your sleep, Jaimie?"

I shrugged. "It was okay."

My mom smiled. "Good to hear it. Now, get ready. School starts in ten minutes."
