Niall’s POV
“I can’t believe you did that for her.” Barbara tells me; her soft voice is filled with remorse as she looks down at the ground.
We are at the back of the building where all the cars lined up, as soon as the second and last day of the shoot is over. I keep a safe distance from her, just in case she doesn’t want me to come near her. I don’t even know why she’s being this emotional all of a sudden.
After Bree left the couches earlier, Barbara just stopped talking to me until now that we are alone in the car park.
“I don’t know where you’re going with this, Barbara. What’s the matter?” I ask, clearly clueless as to why she’s being like this. With my question, she finally snaps her head up to look me in the eye. My brows scrunches together when I behold the frown in her face, her eyes glisten from the moist that had formed in the corners of her eyes.
“I actually thought that you were all romantic with me because you feel like it. But then I realize that you were just making her jealous.” She emphasizes on the word,’ her’. She sniffles and then wipes her nose with the back of her hand.
I shake my head a bit, not even making the effort to look back at her. If I do, she’d just really hate me furthermore.
“I don’t know what to say.” My voice is soft, gentle to soothe her.
“You don’t have to say anything actually, Niall. I am just hurt because I feel like I was being used. You shouldn’t have done that. I feel so bad for her. If I only knew what you were doing, I shouldn’t have gone with it.”
“Why do you care? She deserved it.” My words are harsh but I keep my voice low so that only the two of us could hear the conversation.
I don’t even feel bad about Bree. If anything, I am just satisfied that she was somehow hurt. It’s not even half of what I felt when she abandoned me.
“She doesn’t, Niall. Did you even see her tears when she walked out of us?”
“How did you even know about her?”
“I am not stupid, Niall. I know she’s the girl you met in Australia, the reason why you still can’t commit to any relationship. She’s pretty close with the other boys, meanwhile you…” She shakes her head, darting her sight to an empty space from a distant. “And of course, her accent. It was obvious.”
Instead of answering her, I just let out a humourless laugh, showing her my lack of interest towards the subject.
I am a bit taken aback with the next thing that she does. She takes few steps towards me and then grab my hand, her other hand rubs the back of it.
“Why don’t you get her back?” She tells me, her eyes are persuasive and hopeful. I widen my eyes at her suggestion, clearly not what I was expecting her to say.
“Woah. Woah. Slow down, Barbara.” I say and pry her hands off mine. “Who says I want her back? I was fine until she came in here. When she goes back to where she came from, everything will be back to normal again.” I tell her, trying to show conviction but then she arches an eyebrow at me when my voice cracked at the end.
“You sure?” She defies and crosses her arms upon her chest. Barbara has always been a sweet and thoughtful friend to me. People couldn’t understand our relationship, but we have the common understanding as to what it is that goes between us.
