Chapter 32- Who?!

When I wake my arm is numb. Its just sunset, I assume its been just over an hour. Efs mouth is wide open and he is breathing heavily. He is still slumped back on the sofa, just slightly more vertical than before. Im still on his lap, leaning on his chest. I dont move, I could accidentally wake him.

The guys enter through the door and sit at the table. Gee sends a fleeting look my way. Eventually, he comes over and sits on a sofa opposite me.

"Did you sleep with him?" He asks.

I dont know what that means.

"You slept with him didnt you."

I try and make sense of what he means.

"I was asleep for an hour." I say, trying to make sense of what he meant.

"So you slept with him?"

"He was comforting me and he gave me a hug. I fell asleep."

He searches my eyes and realises I dont know what sleeping with someone is.

"Why were you so scared anyway?" He asks, softer.

I swallow hard, sitting up on Efs legs.

"No one ever gets scared."

"You were touching me weirdly and getting uncomfortably close and you towered over me and I was sure you were going to hurt me." I say quietly.

"It wasnt meant to go like that at all."

I look up at him and he runs his fingers through his hair.

"I really like you, I think youre great. I wouldnt want to hurt you, ever."

I dont know what to say. Is there an adequate reply? "Okay." Thats what I say.

"Just please tell me when you are uncomfortable at all, it hurts me more to see you uncomfortable than it does to be interrupted."

"Okay."

Ef sit up suddenly and I squeak.

"Thanks, youve made up." He says. "It didnt need to go on for much longer. Now, Jay, please get off me, my legs are numb."

I stand up Ef gets up, stretching. Gee turns back and sits at the table.

"Thanks Ef." I say.

"For what?" He asks.

"The comforting and having a warm chest." I laugh.

"Right."

"Can I go back to fighting now?" I ask.

"Yes. But first. You may want this." Gee says, handing me Destroya.

I take her back, holding her firmly. Its nice to have her back.

"Its just a simple thing today. Just the C/U/B/I/C/L/E unit on route Helado."

I nod and follow him.

"They are training there today, we should wreck havoc."

I wonder if Ace will be there. Probably.

We speed down to route Helado towards the unit where Ace may be. Doctor Death Defying on the radio and the sun on the sand.

"The usual, guys. Nothing weird."

We all nod but Im not paying attention.

We all rush into the building. I leave from the group almost immediately, running down another route to a big hall. Nobody is guarding anything as I speed through the halls.

I slow down further ahead, the guys knew where everyone would be, probably. The halls are still empty and I wonder around, subconsciously looking for Ace. There is the sound of some steps in the halls that arent mine.

I hold my breath, standing around the corner. I clutch at my gun and wait to see who will turn the corner.

A blonde girl turns the corner. I point my gun at her head and she puts her hands up. Its Ace.

"Ace?" I whisper.

"Jade, thank goodness youre here!" She says quietly. "Follow me, we need to talk."

We pull in to a small room and she locks the door. My hands are still on my gun, yet by my side.

"I have only a few minutes to talk. BL arent good. They are planning to exterminate everyone but the brainwashed Battery City folk. I stopped taking the drug to see if I would die but with BLs plans, I may die anyway." She pauses. "My brother didnt come home last week. Billy, he was killed by a Killjoy. But its kill or be killed isnt it?"

She waits for me to speak but something is stuck in my throat. I dont even want to admit it to myself, so I dont think about it.

"And... Ive thought about this for a long time. But, I want to be a Killjoy. I want to come with you!"

"You dont just become a killjoy..." Although, I did.

"I dont want to stay at BL and I dont want to die yet."

She looks pleadingly at me and I consider it.

"Please."

"You know its hard work, you still may die and you have to kill people?"

"What odds do you think Ive been weighing up?"

"I can show you to the guys, but it doesnt mean you are coming with us."

"Fine."

"One more thing." I say, standing.

"Ill do anything."

"Get on my back?"

"What?"

I force her on my back, "hold on tightly."

She clings onto me awkwardly and I run into the hall, gun in hand. I sprint around the corners until we reach the entrance. MK is standing there with some wires and buttons.

"Kobra Kid." I yell as we approach.

"Who is that?" He replies.

"She knows stuff about BL, she is clever."

"But who is she?"

"I gave her the paper with my finger print on it."

"I said- who is she?"

"Ace. She knows and begged me to come with. She practically jumped on my back."

"Mikey is that-" Ace starts.

"Not now Ace, Im trying to get you in."

"Mikey, long time no see am I right?"

I drop her off my back and she holds out her hand to MK.

"Five years, yeah?"

MK is frozen, the buttons ridged in his grasp. My eyes flick between both of them. MK and Ace knew each other? MK looks down his nose at her but doesnt shake her hand. I can see his hand feel over his gun.

"Do we need to go somewhere?" I ask.

"Good thing we brought the van this time. Tie her up with these and we can talk to the guys." MK says, throwing me some of the wires before turning off towards the van.

I turn to grin at her but she is already tying her feet up. I tie her arms and MK puts her over his shoulder.

"Heres the plan, Ace. We kidnapped you because you know information. Its wont be a pleasant ride but its the best way out of BL." MK says, walking down the hall.

We jump into the car and MK puts Ace in the corner. I sit on the sofa and wait for the rest of them to come. I bet someone will be angry.
