I refuse to stay in bed another day, Im technically as good as healed. I roll out of bed and get dressed, putting on a little of the Channel No5 smell.
I stroll outside and sit at the table, devouring a can of Power Pup. Everyone follows in after me, half asleep. I wait for them to eat slowly, watching the ceiling and counting the freckles on my arms and legs.
Once everyone is done I wait for them to explain the plan for today. I am full of anticipation for a good fight. I grin and wait as the guys pack away their cans.
"Jay, you okay? You look delirious?" Ar asks with a laugh.
"Im good. Whats the plan?" I say, almost too fast.
"Today is a rest day." MK shrugs.
My grin falters. "What?"
"Today we are resting, regrouping, planning, healing."
The grin drops from my face, I am disappointed.
"Sorry."
"Dont be sorry, its okay." I say.
"We can practice your shooting though." Gee says and I turn to look at him.
His hair is growing long and floppy, he grins with the side of his mouth and brushes the red mop out of his face.
"Yeah, I guess." I say after that moment of watching.
Skip a few minutes ahead, Gee is leaning against the wall with crossed arms, watching me fire at the target I painted. I grunt with almost every shot, taking a step back, firing again, stepping back until I can barely see the smirk on Gees face.
"Why the smirk?" I ask.
He shrugs walking up to me.
"So? How did I do?"
"Your aim is good, now learn to stand better."
"How?" I ask, turning to look him in the eye.
"Uh..." He falters for a moment. "Here..."
Without warning he pushes my stomach in and straightens my back.
"Sorry." He mumbles. "Was that weird?"
I must have flinched or something. "No, well... Im not used to people touching me or whatever."
"Oh, yeah."
"But its okay. Ive gotta get used to it."
I try to find a way to say 'its okay to touch me, I like it anyway' without sounding weird.
"Okay, what else?"
"Well, hold you seem to be okay otherwise."
His eyes search my face and I hold my breath as he surveys me.
"Okay. Lets shoot."
I pull the trigger, still looking at him. I turn and look, I hit the target near the centre. I shoot a few times, stepping backwards. I bump into him and mumble an apology, not stopping.
"Good. Good." Gee says as I continue.
I start moving forwards instead, running at the target.
"Look. Keep going, I gotta do something before I forget." Gee says.
I turn and grin at him and he runs off.
I continue working, stopping every few minutes to wipe sweat off my head.
"You go girl!" Ef shouts, turning from behind the building.
"Ef!" I shout.
"Looks good, doing well. Have a break?"
I shrug, walking and sitting next to him in the shade of the wall.
"So, doing well? Has Gee taught you well?"
"Yeah, he is good."
I pause for a moment, thinking about how he has been acting recently.
"Do you... Think that Gee has been acting weird recently?" I ask.
"I guess. Seems a bit nervous maybe and day dreamy." Ef shrugs.
"I really want to know why."
"You cant get into Gees head, he doesnt share much. Unless he trusts you that is..."
I think of when he told me his story.
"He is secretive unless he really likes someone."
"Oh." I say.
"Oh?"
"Do you think-"
"Im back!" Gee shouts gleefully, turning the corner.
I flick my eyes from Gee to Ef.
"Later." Ef promises.
I stand up as he leaves, aiming my gun.
"Now, lets teach you some combat. Fighting up close and winning." Gee says.
I put my gun back in my pocket, adjusting my hair. I step out onto the sand and he stands opposite him.
"Stand like this."
He throws precise instructions like how to stand and where to hit and how to time and when to do what ever. He teaches me where the best place is to punch and what my 'powers' are.
"Can we fight now?" I ask.
"Sure. Use what I taught you."
I roll my eyes, getting into stance. He waves his fingers, beckoning me. In my head I count down.

Fuck it.
I run at him, kicking him in the stomach. At impact he grabs my foot, twisting it and sending me to the floor. I jump back up with a grunt. He stares at me, waiting. I wait for him to blink, running at him, punching him. He catches it and I throw the other arm at his throat. He gasps at impact and I grin, kicking him in the crotch. He winces, falling to his knees.
I relax, watching him fall to the floor. Before I notice it he pulls my legs from under me, making me fall just besides him. I crawl onto my knees, getting on top of him. I throw a punch into his stomach and he pushes me, rolling me onto my back. I grunt, hitting him with all I have. He shrugs, throwing a light punch to my face.
I scream a wild scream, pushing him off me and getting on top of him. I send punches, slaps and somethings in between at him. He laughs, rolling me off him. He sits on top of me, pinning my arms down. I kick his back, but not able to reach it. He pins both my arms above my head with on hand. Within one move he has his gun against my head.
"I win." He whispers.
I narrow my eyes at him with a sigh. He doesnt move so I take a moment to realise that we are both gasping for air.
"Good try."
I search his eyes for information, he swallows hard. I open my mouth to speak.
"Good job guys, that was a good fight. Now get of each other." MK laughs.
Gee snaps out of a trance, slowly standing.
