Chapter Eighteen

(Day Fourteen)

Ji Yong woke up to the sound of his ringtone blaring at his ear. The cyber police groaned before one hand swooped up from the fluffy blanket, grabbing the ringing phone before disappearing back into the covers.

Ji Yong: 'Yoboseyo?'

Dami: 'Yongie-ah! Where did you go yesterday? Mino was left all alone at the academy last night..'

Ji Yong immediately shot up from his bed, his orange hair sticking out at every direction before running his hand through it.

Ji Yong: 'I thought he followed Jinwoo home ..'

Dami: 'They broke up a few days ago, Ji Yong-ah.. Mino wouldn't tell why.. I was hoping you did come back to coax him. He's being in his room eversince last night and hasn't even touched his breakfast or anything I've given him..'

Ji Yong was silent as he pondered whether or not to return home, as it was quite far from where he was right now. Ji Yong was about to refuse when Dami's words made him think twice about saying no.

Dami: 'Yongie, he looks up to you like a brother he never had. Mino gave up his rapping career and joined the police academy so that one day he could make you proud and also repay you. Don't be the same person like appa did, Yongie..'

Ji Yong: 'I'll come over later.'

Ji Yong hung up his phone and got dressed in an instant. As he walked out of his room, his icy aura could have froze Seungri who walked pass with a morning greeting.

"Ji... Ji Yong hyung??"

"Hmm."

Seungri flinched at Ji Yong's curt reply, considering his history of teasing the younger almost every chance he gets with 'nice intentions'. It was even weirder when the cyber police didn't even stop at Chae Rin's room to check on her, which Seungri had seen Ji Yong stuck his head into the room to check at Chae Rin before going off to work.

"Ji hyung!! Where are you going?"

"I'm going home for a few days. Tell Youngbae I'm taking a few days leave from duty."

Ji Yong replied without beating around the bush, and his icy stare was enough for Seungri to know that something serious happened, especially if it concerns his sister, Kwon Dami and Song Mino, a young boy he saved on a mission from his abusive mother who went crazy after Mino's father left.

"Seungri."

"Yes?!!"

Seungri jumped from his thoughts and was met with a cold stare from Ji Yong, which softened as he ruffled the younger's white hair.

"Take care of yourself and Chae Rin, 'kay? I won't be here to protect both of you."

Seungri widened his eyes as he stared at Ji Yong who bid goodbye with a playful salute and wink. Despite the older sometimes very annoying teasing and the quarrels the two would get invovled in, Seungri knew that Ji Yong was a softie down in his heart and cared for everyone here, even though his 'I don't care who you are' attitude is sometimes really a pain in the neck.

Smilling to himself, Seungri silently prayed for Ji Yong to be safe on his journey home and hope that anything that's bothering Ji Yong could be settled, just like how the Ji Yong he knew would always finish everything without any errors, any flaws, like the man himself.

"Hyung, what are you smiling at?"

Turning to the source of the voice, Seungri looked down only to see Seunghyun squatting beside him, one hand tugging at his shirt while looking up at him with a curious expression.

"Nothing."

Seungri just chuckled as he leaned down to Seunghyun's height and ruffled Seunghyun's cat ears, which made the neko purred in content.

"Come on, Hyun. You want pancakes??"

"With extra syrup!!!"

With Seunghyun following behind with excited chants of 'yummy pancakes' , Seungri proceeded to the kitchen and decided to cook breakfast before the others wake up.

Ji Yong was basically driving over the speed limit as he made his way home as fast as he can, as the trip to Dami's apartment took a day. He treates Song Minho like a younger brother and cares for him, just like how he cares deeply for Dami. He was not going to be his monster of a father, who had made his and Dami's life a living hell.

Upon reaching the apartment of Kwon Dami's, Ji Yong punched in the password to Dami's apartment and went in.

"Ji Yong!"

"Noona."

The Kwon siblings embraced each other tightly.

"He's in his room. He hasn't eaten for two days. I'll cooked something light for him, if you manage to coax him into eating."

Dami said as she led Ji Yong to Mino's room, which was located on the second floor. Faint sobs were heard over the oak-coloured door which led to Mino's room.
Ji Yong ushered his sister to wait downstairs which Dami complied. Taking a breath, Ji Yong knocked on the door.

"I'm not hungry, noona..."

Came Mino's tearful voice which followed with heart-piercing sobs.

"Mino-yah, its me. Ji Yong."

The sobs stopped, and Ji Yong didn't wait for Mino as he opened Mino's door, and his heart clenched.

There, was Song Mino, sitting on his messed-up bed while burying his head in his fold-up knees, shivers raking his entire body as sobs escaped the crying boy. On the floor beside the bed were full of crumpled tissues and pictures of Jinwoo and Mino scattered the floor, some were torned to half under Mino's rage.

"Mino...."

Ji Yong could only call the younger's name as he hugged Mino, his hands running through the boy's black hair than ran down his back in a soothing manner.

"Why.. Why would he leave me...."

Mino's words made Ji Yong's heart bleed as Ji Yong hugged the younger tighter, this time whispering comforting words in Mino's ears. Footsteps were heard down the hallway and Ji Yong turned to face his sister, who was looking at Mino with worried eyes.

After hours of comforting the heart-brokened boy, Ji Yong grabbed a warm cloth which Dami conveniently provided and wiped Mino's tear-stricken face. Ji Yong's heart clenched again when he took in a full view of Mino's face. The younger's eyes were swollen and blood red from exccessive crying, his hair disheveled and messy, his body frame visibly became even more smaller, making Ji Yong think twice on letting him out during a windy day.

"Hyung...."

"Yes, Mino??"

Ji Yong asked softly as he soothed Mino's hair, the other hand gripping Mino's hand tightly.

"Am I not good enough??"

Ji Yong widened his eyes at Mino's words, before hugging thr younger tightly.

"Hyung..??"

"Did he say those words to you, Mino??"

"....."

"Did Jinwoo tell you that, Mino??"

Mino's sniffles was enough comfirmation for Ji Yong as he patted the younger's back.

"You're a talented boy, Mino. I'm proud of you. Your rapping skills was one of the best I've seen. But, you chose to give up your talent and join the police force, just to prove to yourself that you're not the weak Mino that everyone thought you were. So, forget that bastard, he doesn't deserve you."

Ji Yong's words made Mino gasped as he sat there, looking at his brother/mentor with wide eyes, before bursting into tears again.
