Imagine: You meet Castiel for the first time and he is immediately smitten with you.
A/N: He will not be smitten as like in love, no, but Cas has a love for mankind, obv, so this chapter will show how he sees you as a toddler/kid and sees the beauty and potential that you have, and gives himself the responsibility of becoming your guardian angel.
Age: 7
"Y/n, come here, I want you to meet someone." Dean interrupted your playing with Legos and took your tiny hand, encasing it in his own larger one and leading you out of your bedroom and down the bunker hall to the library.
Waiting for you was your Sammy, and another man in a trench coat you didn't recognize. Upon seeing him, you hid yourself behind Dean's leg with a scared whimper, feeling him place a hand on your head and stroke your pigtails softly.
"It's okay, baby. He's a friend." Dean murmured quietly, looking down at you.
He reached behind himself and pulled you in front of him, squatting behind you. You pressed yourself between his legs, looking with apprehension at the man in front of you, while he simply stared back with an interested look on his face.
"Y/n, it's alright, Cupcake," Sammy spoke from beside the black-haired man, "He's not gonna hurt you. His name is Cas."
"Hello, Y/n." The trench-coated man spoke for the first time, and you couldn't help but be slightly comforted by the tone of his voice, gravelly and deep. It reminded you of Bobby's, for some reason, and it seemed to calm you.
"Hi." Your voice was high and quiet compared to his, and both Sam and Dean smiled upon hearing you speak. You were a shy child, having never known anyone but Sam, Dean, Bobby, and your father John. To hear you speak to Cas, even if only one word, was like hearing you accept him into your life. Sam and Dean knew Cas would help protect you, and your safety was all they wanted.
"My name is Castiel." Cas squatted down in front of you and held out his hand, "I'm a friend of Sam and Dean."
You glanced at Dean behind you, like you were asking permission to shake his hand, and Dean nodded, pushing you forward gently.
You hesitantly walked over to the black-haired man and took his hand. Despite its size, he was gentle, as though he were handling a butterfly, and he shook your tiny fist lightly. A small smile graced his lips, and without realizing it you smiled back.
"Nice to meet you, Mr. Castiel." You squeaked in a little voice, still a bit shy but nevertheless intrigued by the man you'd soon come to love like another brother.
"Please, Y/n, just call me Cas." He responded, a twinkle in his blue eyes as he that tiny grin seemed to widen ever-so-slightly. You giggled a bit.
"Okay, Cas. Do you want to play with me?" You asked, surprising yourself. You didn't know why you were so open with this man, never had you been so sociable before, it was always hiding in Sam's shirt or behind Dean's legs.
"Yeah, yeah I'd love to play with you." Castiel responded. You grinned and took his hand as he stood, pulling him toward the hall that led to your bedroom.
"And you'll take care of my baby girl, until she dies, right Cas?" You heard Dean say as you passed him. Cas stopped and you busied yourself with tying your little converse, but you were listening to what went down above your head.
"Dean, this girl is special," There was an emotion in Castiel's voice, one that he had never possessed until he met the boys, but even then he learned to control it. That love that littered his gravelly tone crashed back into him like a freight train the moment he laid eyes on that little girl, "I'll lead her to Heaven's door and hand her off to her family myself."
"Come on, Cas. I wanna play." You whined beneath the two men, tugging at Cas's large hand with both of yours. Sam and Dean chuckled at you, Cas only smiled. But that was enough.
"Alright, I'm coming." He followed you as you hopped down the steps and took off excitedly toward your bedroom.
What you didn't know at the time, was that this man would play with you, and care for you, and love you more than your father ever did. He was no comparison to the boys, and their love for you was stronger than titanium, but Castiel's love was powerful nonetheless, and he would bleed, sweat, and cry for you many times over the course of your life. He would help you fight and take care of your wounds.
He would even sacrifice himself to save your life.
