Sara's POV
The next few seconds occurred rapidly and in one quick motion. The door swung open to reveal what I didn't want to see. The look of sheer disappointment resonated on my face. Not only was Harry not at the door but in his place stood two men dressed in uniform. Their navy blue jackets and straight edged pants stood out and was recognizable from anywhere. It was the police.
The man to my left spoke to me first. "Excuse me ma'am, do you mind if we come in? We have a few questions we'd like to ask you and there's something we'd like to discuss with you." His voice was deep and he was significantly taller then his partner. Both of them had sculpted broad shoulders and their stares were undoubtedly intimidating. I swallowed harshly and stepped to the side.
"Of course, please come in."
As they walked past me, their weighted feet made thuds against the ground with each step they took. I invited them to sit at the kitchen table. Samantha motioned to me that she would put Addison down to bed and she would be there if I needed her.
A million thoughts raced through my head. Why were they here? Was something wrong? Thoughts of Harry rushed to my mind and wondered if he was alright. I wondered how they got to my doorstep and past the gate but my attention was quickly averted when they began to speak, breaking up my thoughts.
"Is everything alright?" I asked. My voice sounded more timid than I had hoped it would but with my heart beating faster by the second, it was hard to even remember to breath.
"That's what we're trying to figure out." The officer paused as he brought out a small notepad and pen from his jacket. "Have you noticed anything suspicious lately?"
"I'm sorry, I'm not quite sure what you mean." I admitted. I felt uncomfortable and frightened without even knowing what was going on.
"Recently we've received calls from your neighbours reporting some suspicious activity happening around your home."
My neighbours? I had only seen or talked to them a handful of times and even that statement was generous. On either side of our house I had two retired couples who spent most of the year in warmer climates. Our area never had very many families with children.
"I haven't left my house very much lately. If there is anything going on, I'm not aware of it." I told them honestly. The both of them looked at each other before turning their attention back to me. I was already on edge and wanted someone here with me but I sat here alone with two people I didn't know I wanted to hear answers from.
"Is there something I should know? I'm starting to get worried." I didn't know what I wanted more, them to stop beating around the answers and tell me straight up, or ease into whatever they had to tell me incase it was something I didn't want to hear.
"Ma'am our intent wasn't to worry you," He paused, unable to find his words. "We followed up on the recent claims made by your neighbors and were able to look into your surveillance cameras to confirm the recent activity."
At this point, Samantha walked back down the stairs and joined us in the kitchen. I gestured for her to sit in the seat next to me and I roughly squeezed her hand for reassurance and support.
"We have surveillance videos of a reoccurring hooded man walking past your home. On several of the occasions he stopped briefly to take pictures. At first didn't concern us because it's not an uncommon thing for this to happen given your influence in the media. Looking throughout the weeks and even months, we have noticed the individual enough for it to raise concern."
"We then began to notice a pattern in the vehicles that passed by your house. One particular vehicle caught our attention. At specific times during the day a small blacked out vehicle drives by but slows down once it nears your house-"
