Chapter 23

Hiiii! I'm such a good author, leaving for a month without notice...I'm back? I'm so terrible XD. FYI I love the anime above and it's opening is bomb! One of the very few Arabic translated anime that I can actually enjoy without cringing.

(Luna's POV)

This was going to end terribly, I just knew somehow it will.

Sledge walked closer, then stopped a few inches in front of me. I was supposed to step back, I know, but this person, this beast, was still Tobias and he still held a place in my heart. The man must've noticed my hesitance, as he chuckled and said, "it's been years, do you still believe the old me exists Lunamaria?".

My heart squeezed painfully in my chest, but I steeled my nerves and stepped away from him as I spoke boldly, "whatever it is you want to say, spit it out. I don't have to waste my time here just to reminisce about the past,".

Sledge's lips tugged into a sly grin and walked around me as he confessed, "your very existence​ has been a very painful thorn in my side, dear." His grin fell and in its place came an irritated frown "I am supposed to be fully...fixed you can say, and yet my stubborn human side has been thrumming the moment I saw you again,".

I held my breath, then let it out calmly so that my surprise wouldn't show. 'Tobias is still alive? So there's a chance now...' I thought, trying not to let my hope overwhelm my senses.

Sledge caught me off guard before I could snap back to my senses and gripped my neck. It wasn't tight enough to choke me, but it still hurt immensely. I struggled to get out of his hold.

"Let...go!" I grunted, the very effort of struggling exhausting me. Sledge's face suddenly broke out into an unreadable expression, but his eyes spoke for themselves with the immense annoyance lurking in them. "My human side is a pest, and so I assumed that turning you to my side will squelch it's constant buzzing. Your power too is strong and could be a good replacement for your brother," I glared at him as his speech was completed. As if I'd join him, Tobias or not.

I managed to land a kick at his chest while my energy drained, freeing myself and landing a punch on his face for better safety measures. Sledge grunted as he was pushed back but did nothing else. Why wasn't he fighting or aiming his power at me?

Sledge pulled a ring out of his pocket, and then I decided I spoke too soon because he aimed a blast at me. I hurriedly dodged, managing to shoot back at him my own dark power as well.

I heard him sigh, and before I could blink he had charged at me and aimed a punch at my jaw. This was getting out of hand, and obviously, from the speech and the ring he'd pulled out, he was planning on corrupting me with that strange ring.

"If you would just stand still this could end quicker!" Sledge called out as I attempted to catch my breath behind a tree. "As if, asshole!" I called back, jumping out of my spot and skillfully aiming a blast at his head. He easily dodged it, getting lightly grazed but still definitely not enough.

"So what, you called me out here just to put a ring on my finger then walk out with me beside you? Lemme tell you, you can stop dreaming now," I snarled, getting into a defensive posture, prepared for any sudden attacks. "Yes basically that's the gist of it," Sledge stated as he moved quickly in an attempt to hit my sides, but ended up failing as I blocked him in time and landed a roundhouse kick on his neck.

Sledge flew back into a tree, grunting as he got up rubbing his neck in pain. "Well dear, don't blame me for any injuries in the process," He glared and aimed energy at me, just barely missing me as I moved away from the force of the blast that blew up.

I got up to aim at him but got pushed down by him before I could get up properly. "I have you now," he grinned smugly as he pulled out the ring again. I couldn't let this happen! I shoved my knee onto his crotch, then rolled away as he was in pain. That was a position I once wanted to be in, but with this version of him? No way in hell.

"That's playing dirty," he grunted as he stood up, then looked up and said, "Where are your ninja friends? Surely you didn't actually heed my call and listen to me-" He was mocking me! That stupid...

"-and be dumb and give away any plan I have now? Not ever. You won't get anything out of me," I declared.

"Ah, but you see, I already took that into account," Sledge smirked victoriously. I'm sure it also held a silent villainous cackle behind it. "I ordered my soldiers to attack anything suspicious or with a sign of life inside it, so your hopes of your friends coming to Intervene are very unlikely." He laughed that typical irritating villain laugh.

My friends were ninjas, something as small as soldiers couldn't kill them. I had faith in them, but I couldn't help but dread the fact that he actually saw through me and my plan. On another note, Sledge looked exceptionally evil yet annoyingly goodlooking standing at the front or the cliff  while laughing confidently.

I ran ahead at him, a ball of energy ready to be blasted at him as I yelled "Don't underestimate my friends!" I let it go and aimed at him, and I saw the blast almost come into contact with him and-

The sound of metal impaling flesh sounded through the Cliff as I stared at the sword drawn into Sledge's chest. "W-wha-" he stuttered as he collapsed. My whole world froze. That was Tobias and he just got stabbed and-

I looked up and then my face broke into something that represented rage. This definitely wasn't one of the ninja.
