Chapter Five- Broken Village

What am I doing here with Michael?  Why can I not just run away from him?

I need to stop thinking, and find something else to focus on, if Michael wakes up he will realize I am thinking again, and ask me what is running through my mind.

It has been several days since Michael and I escaped our fait from his community.  Sometimes I wonder what my life would be like right now, if I had of left Michael to die?

“Amanda,” I heard Michael groan in his sleep, I quickly looked at him, dreaming so dysfunctional.  What could he be dreaming about?

I peeked my head through the crowd of leafs that I had been eating.  I think today would give us a good clear to take off on foot tonight if the two of us get enough sleep.

Suddenly in the distance, without all the mist that masked our escape from Yellowknife, I could see a tall object from a far.  I have never seen anything like it.

“Michael wakes up,” I called out to him quickly in excitement.

Michael did not move, I quickly poked at him harshly.

“Amanda, what the heck are you doing?” Michael groaned.

“Michael, I think I found something,” I yelled out to him in frantically.

“Ok, Amanda, you need to keep your voice down, remember you were the one who told me about making noise.”

“I know, I am sorry, but you need to see this,” I gasped.

“What do I need to see Amanda?” Michael asked.

“I have found something… and it’s something I have never seen before Michael.”

“What?”

“Look up here, in the distance just beyond the woods,” I gasped again, trying to catch my breath.

Michael got up off the branch, and peered up to where I was looking, and then his jaw dropped.

“What is it Michael?” I asked.

“Amanda, do you have any idea what you have found?”

“Not a clue,” I smiled.

“You may have pointed us in the direction of some useful resources,” Michael smiled.

“What is a resource?”

“You will see if we find any,” Michael snapped, and quickly started climbing down the tree.

“Michael wait, we cannot take any chances.”

“Amanda, if I sit up here any longer I am going to lose my sanity.”

“What about keeping our shadows safe from the Other Side?”

“Amanda, look around us,” Michael replied.

I quickly took a quick look around, other than directly at the object Michael and I were both crazy over.

“No sun,” I replied.

“That’s right, so right now is our best chance to get our best chance at getting out of this stupid tree, and finding out what it is that is exactly beyond these woods.”

“Ok Michael, let us go,” I replied.

“Thank you for not fighting me on this one Amanda,” Michael smiled back.
