Chapter Fourteen- Building A Yukon Tie
Several weeks passed since we left Alaska, taking with us more than half the members of their community. By this time, we were sure that the Shadow Master heard of the Alaskan treason, and set out demons to destroy the rest of what was left of their community.
There was no way for us the Resistance to leave light tracks, because with each step we began to infect the grey with beautiful and wonderful color.
The fuel truck proved to be a great asset, and when we finally reached what was left of Capital Community Whitehorse, Nathanial was saddened to learn his entire community was Dark Plagued, and there was no one left. Now the only hope he shared with the rest of us, was finding a way to stop the Dark Plague and put an end to the Shadow Master, which none of us where sure how we were going to do it.
We grabbed as many books as we could from the rubble that was left in Whitehorse, also any other supplies that we could manage to fit in to the various automobiles we had. We also stocked up on thirty or so more new automobiles, so that when we found other living humans, we could have enough room to have them join the Resistance.
The more people we infected with color, the more allies we would have in our fight towards freedom.
“Amanda, can you read the map? How far are we from Yellowknife?” Michael asked.
“We are shy of eight-three miles from the city.”
“Excellent,” Michael smiled.
“Do you think your Community was destroyed like Nathanial’s?” I asked.
Michael closed his eyes for a brief moment, and then re-opened them. “I have faith Amanda,” Michael replied happily.
“I wish Nathanial’s community was not lost,” I sobbed, and looked at him sleeping in the back seat.
“His community maybe lost for now Amanda, but we will find them soon, the Shadow Master will find us all soon enough, and try to stop us, or strike a deal with us. And then when the time is right, we will make a deal for the return of the ones we love.”
“I do not understand Michael,” I replied.
“I have spent much time, reading a lot of the minds around us, and they know all about the Other Side, and how it works,” Michael said happily.
“What do you mean?”
“Amanda, there is still hope for your family,” Michael smiled.
“How is that possible?”
“Because they were only Consumed, not killed. They exist between what is left of the real world, and what is left of the Dark Plague.”
“You mean, my family is still alive? Nathanial’s family is still alive?” I screamed over joyed, waking Nathanial up.
“Yes, they are still out there.”
***
We arrived in the Capital of Whitehorse, to realize that the community never vanished, and everyone was still very much alive.
Michael was happy to be re-united with both his parents, but the elders in his community were not so convinced that Michael was safe, but after we all infected Whitehorse in color, they were not sure it was safe for them to stay there now either, since they learned of the Resistance from the Shadow Master, after it was Communicated to all of the different Capital Communities that if any of them joined us, they would be killed, along with the rest of us.
