"She definitely slept with that guy man, there's no doubt about it." David tried to keep up with Colin as he walked quickly through the busy streets.
"How can you be so sure?"
"My friend's an accountant, he works with some of the marketers there and he even knows the guy that she was telling you about. He's got a wife and kids at home."
"No." Colin said with great force, his feet bringing him to a halt. "No that's not true. It can't be true. I know Katie."
"I guess you don't know her that well." David shot back at him before the two continued on walking up the street again. Colin was being so quiet, his friend felt like he needed to say something. "Listen man, you probably just made a wrong judgement. It's cool, I'm sure she wouldn't be that stupid to do it again."
The thought of Katie being with someone did not sit well, and the thought of that someone being married made him feel sick. How could be continue the way they were after he found this out? He was still somewhat in denial.
"It's a good thing you didn't listen to me about tapping that. You dodged a bullet right there. I dodged a bullet too." Colin didn't mention it then, but David was being such a hypocrite. His friend had forgotten too easily about his relationship a couple months ago with Stacy and why it ended.
"David I'm not in the mood right now, can we just stop talking about it." His patience was growing thin.
"But you're the one who brought it up on the way here?"
"And now I wish I hadn't." Colin cursed himself for even calling David up and telling him about Katie. He was snooping in something that as a boss would be okay, but as a friend, was definitely not. "Let's just go get lunch." He grumbled.
It was a busy Saturday afternoon in the city, and the pair were meeting up with Vinny later, after their lunch. Colin had never bumped into Katie outside of the office, so he wasn't expecting to see her sitting at a table across from a guy in the very same restaurant he and David were in.
David didn't notice her at first, but once they sat down and Colin seemed off, he turned around to look at what his friend couldn't keep his eyes off. David laughed before looking at Colin.
"Speak of the devil." He said.
"Let's just stop talking about her, I don't want to think about it anymore for the time being." Colin replied, annoyance clear in his stiff frame and his tone.
But Colin couldn't keep his wandering eyes at bay. Throughout his meal and conversation with David, he would scan Katie's table and take in the little things. She had left her hair down, her dark, wild tendrils fell below her shoulders- a sight Colin had never seen before. She always kept her hair up at work. When she laughed, it was in a shy and quiet way, although seldom, Colin thought she looked as if she was enjoying her lunch.
"So Anna- what's happening with her?"
"Nothing."
"Nothing? Weren't you two breaking up last week?"
"We mended things. For now." Colin mumbled his last two words to himself rather than to the other man.
"And how long will that last huh?"
"You know, David, you really are trying to talk about everything I don't want to talk about today. Good work." He said dryly before taking a mouthful of his drink.
