"I wish you could come with me." Katie groaned as she stretched out under the covers.
"I know but I'm busy at work." Vinny lied. He felt terrible for having to lie to her but it was for her own good, he needed to keep some parts of his life a secret, at least for the time being.
"I feel so nervous going on my own." She did feel a knot in her stomach although she had agreed with little hesitation at the start to attend the brunch at the Anderson's house.
"Don't worry, you'll be fine. And afterward we can go somewhere nice for a couple drinks, I'll be finished whatever I need to do by then at work." The thought of that calmed her nerves a little.
"Promise?" she asked despite knowing he wouldn't let her down.
"Of course. Now where did I put my shoes?" he mumbled the last sentence to himself as he walked around the room fixing his tie.
"By the sofa in the living room." Katie said, still lying in bed but sitting up slightly so she could take in the sight of her beautiful boyfriend.
"Oh yeah." He nodded to himself.
"Do you want me to make you something to eat before you head off?" she called after him but he soon entered her room again, shoes in hand.
"No, I'm good. I don't want to take away from your time getting ready."
"Are you sure? I'm making breakfast for myself anyway."
"Maybe I could stay for a while longer." He contemplated.
"Great, let me just throw something on." She said before getting up out of bed.
The pair chatted over a small breakfast that Katie prepared for the two of them, it was still early in morning but she didn't want to eat too much before heading to the Anderson's. She had plenty of time to get ready so sat with Vinny for a very long time, in fact maybe a little too long, Vinny was late for his appointment at work. He rushed out the door, kissing her goodbye and promising to see her later that day.
By that time Emily had arrived home from her night shift at the hospital and with a yawn and a stretch, she threw herself down on one of the couches in the living room. Katie was procrastination getting ready and so went to sit with her friend for a while to catch up before she got dressed.
"So have you picked what you're going to wear yet?" Emily asked during their conversation. She could sense her friend's nervousness.
"Yep but my outfit is the least of my concern at the minute. I wish I wasn't going alone. I just don't like not knowing what to expect."
"How crazy can a brunch get?" Emily smirked at her.
"I know, I'm just being silly aren't I?" she laughed lightly.
"I'd love to get dressed up and go to some fancy brunch with you at Colin's mansion, it's too bad I'm a nurse working shitty hours. Otherwise, I would've invited myself." Katie noticed how exhausted Emily looked and felt guilty then.
"I'm sorry, I really shouldn't be complaining."
"Oh don't worry about it Katie. You should probably go get ready. I'll be with you in spirit." Emily joked.
"You're right, maybe I should." She nodded to herself before getting up from the couch. "Do you want me to make you something before I-"
"Go and get ready woman! I'll make myself something in a little bit." Her friend chuckled as she flicked through the channels on the TV.
