"How long?" Colin finally had the chance to ask Katie on the Monday morning after a long weekend of anticipation. He watched as she gulped before taking another mouthful of coffee.
"Since the gala- well it took me a while to get back to him. But that's where I met him."
"Why didn't you guys tell me?"
"Because I knew this was exactly the way you'd react Colin." Katie spoke in exasperation, growing tired of this conversation already.
"Because my two friends have been lying to me and seeing each other behind my back for months." He tried to make her understand but she was in no mood for his explanations.
"You know what Colin, I don't need to explain myself to you, or anyone. Sure, he's your friend but he's also my boyfriend now and we kept things a secret for a while because we needed time to think. That was our decision and you need to respect that. I'm sorry we had to lie to you but we're together now and you need to understand that."
Her sobering words hit Colin like a punch to the face. They were together- and there was nothing he could do about it. He was with Laila and Katie was with Vinny, all he needed was time to come to terms with it although he knew it was going to be difficult.
"I'm sorry." Colin said genuinely, shaking his head a little. "I'm happy you found someone Katie, I'm sorry for over overreacting." He said, thinking back to that day in the park when she talked about her date and trying to find someone.
Katie willingly accepted his apology but he had one last thing to say before their conversation was stirred somewhere else.
"What I said a while ago about Vinny not being good for you, I meant it."
"Colin-" she began to warn him but he raised his hand up in a gesture for her to stop speaking for a moment.
"But. There is a but Katie if you'll let me finish."
"Fine then." She rolled her eyes at him.
"But it's your decision and I have to respect that. I'll let you figure things out for yourself." He nodded at her.
She found his words to be very cryptic then but shrugged off any doubts she had from them, because every time she thought about Vinny she felt reassured.

"Bora Bora?" Katie asked in complete bewilderment.
"Yeah it's an island in the south Pacific." Vinny replied, looking at her with a hopeful expression on his face.
"I know what Bora Bora is Vinny." She said dryly.
                              "So..."
"So." She replied, not knowing what else to say.
                              "What do you think?"
"I think it's too much." Although Katie didn't want to be ungrateful, she had to be honest. His gift really was far too extravagant for her, especially considering they had not been dating very long.
"C'mon Katie." He pleaded with her. Her apprehension puzzled him, any other girl he had been with would've jumped at the idea of going on a vacation with him even if they were not together as long as he and Katie had been.
                              "What about work?"
"What about it? I'm sure we can twist Colin's arm. You told me before you never take any holidays."
