"Hop in." Katie said through the opened car window, to which Colin walked around to the opposite side of the car and got in the car.

"Do you like the suit?" he asked about the suit she had gotten dry cleaned and dropped into his rehabilitation centre a couple days ago.

"The suit is the least of your worries right now." She replied with an eye roll and began driving off. He always looked good in a suit, but she wasn't going to admit that to him right then while they were on the way to court to decide his DUI charges.

"It's fine, I don't need you to tell me how good I look right now. I already know it." He looked from the corner of his eye to see if he had gotten some sort of reaction out of her rom his words. Colin noticed how she was trying to hold in laughter and smiled then despite his nervousness.

"How are you feeling?"

"Okay I suppose, considering the circumstances." He held back his honesty for a moment, which led to a short silence until he voiced his worries aloud to her. "D-do you think I'm going to have to go to jail?"

Katie took a moment to look at him and then fixed her gaze back to driving, unsure how to answer his question.

"I don't know Colin. But I've been speaking to your attorney and he thinks he'll be able to get you out of a jail sentence."

"I won't last in prison." He could barely cope being in rehab for this long, and that was nothing compared to prison.

"Listen, let's just take everything as it comes. We'll be there soon, and if you do get a prison sentence, we can worry about it after the hearing."

Her words didn't calm him down at all and his nerves only got worse the closer they got. The hearing didn't take long and much to Colin's surprise, he was not given a jail sentence, only a hefty fine and two year license suspension. The relief he felt once they walked out of the court room was immense. Katie turned to him and gave him a huge hug. They stayed in the same spot for a while sharing a moment of relief.

The car ride back was much louder than the one to the courthouse. They joked and laughed, the mood much more uplifting. Katie's phone cut across their talking when a message came through.

"Hey can you read that message out to me? I'm driving."

"It's from Emily, she asked if you're still on for dinner tonight at seven?"

"Can you text her back saying sure, I can't wait."

"Sure, why are you two going to dinner?" he asked, curious.

"She said she has something to tell me but needs to do it in person, I'm not sure why though because we live in the same apartment. Surely she could just tell me there. Then again, I barely see her when I'm at home. Our schedules are always crossing, I feel like I haven't seen her in forever."

"How come?"

"Oh she's just been really busy with work lately. She's been working a lot of nightshifts and stuff."

"Nightshifts... that must be crappy."

"I know, you can't even handle simple nine to five shifts." Katie scoffed, cracking a smile in the corner of her mouth after she spoke.

"As soon as I get out I'm going straight back to working, and working hard at that."

"How are you going to survive without having me doing all the work for you?" she asked, humour filling her tone.
