"You're getting married? Oh my god Em that's great!" Katie exclaimed before she stood up to give both her friend and her boyfriend a hug. Emily had been beaming since she, Jeremy, Katie and Colin had reached the restaurant a while ago for brunch that afternoon, Katie knew exactly why then.
"Congratulations." Colin said warmly to the couple before shaking Jeremy's hand and smiling at Emily.
"Have you picked a date yet? How did he propose? I want to know everything." Katie's words shot out of her mouth at a thousand miles an hour. She was unable to contain her excitement and it made everyone at the table laugh.
"We're looking to have the wedding around November or December, but we just need to try sort everything else out first and see if it suits everyone." She smiled at Jeremy as she spoke.
It seemed quite soon to Katie, but she didn't voice her opinion out loud, instead, she listened intently as Emily explained where she wanted the wedding to be and how Jeremy proposed to her. She was completely surprised by the engagement but at the same time, truly thrilled for her friend. Emily broke the news to her that she would be one of the bridesmaids, which only added to Katie's excitement. They branched off into their own conversation about dresses, themes and decor while Jeremy and Colin continued with their conversation before Emily had told them the big news.
The waiter gathered their empty plates just as message came through on Colin's cell phone.
"Shit." He breathed in sharply as he read the message before turning to Katie. "It's almost two thirty, Andrew just texted me asking were we still coming over."
"Oh yes, I almost forgot about that. We might be a couple of minutes late but we'll still make it."
"Okay, I'll tell him now."
"Sorry guys, I guess we'll have to cut this brunch short."
"Are you two visiting the gorgeous Hazel?" Emily asked, looking between the couple. She had only met the baby a handful of times but she certainly left a lasting impression on her. She was beautiful and even though she was only a couple of months old, already was bursting with personality.
"We sure are." Colin replied from across the table as Katie put her jacket on.
"This was lovely but I'm afraid we have to go now. Congratulations you two, I'm so happy for you. And don't worry Em, I'll be catching up with you tomorrow, so we can continue our conversation about the wedding plans." Katie winked at Emily which caused her and Jeremy to chuckle.
"Bye." They both said in unison, to which Colin and Katie said also before leaving.
There was a short yet comfortable silence in the car on the way to Andrew's house. Katie was content, she feel so happy and overjoyed for her friend who had found someone she thought she would spend the rest of her life with. And Katie was going to be able to help Em every step of the way with wedding plans, it was all so exciting for her. Colin watched intently as she smiled to herself, then said something that made Katie's content to curiosity.
"Look at you, smiling like a fool to yourself and you aren't even the one getting married." Colin teased her before adding, "I can't imagine what you're going to be like when I pop the question if you're like this because Em's got engaged." Katie's eyes widened a little at the mention of Colin proposing to her. When she turned to look at him in the passenger seat, a boyish grin was plastered onto his face.
