"Dan, it's okay, we don't have to do this right now," Phil rubs Dan's back soothingly, causing Dan to weep harder.
They're sitting on their sofa, a small box is being clutched in Dan's left hand with a small basket sitting at his feet. His other hand is stroking over his flat stomach, pausing only to rub his thumb up and down as he used to do months ago when he had a swollen belly.
"Phil, we really should, we don't need them, y'know? Someone else definitely will, someone less fortunate than-" he starts full-on sobbing, fat tears rolling down his cheeks. He holds the box close to his chest, criss-crossing his arms over it as he curls into himself.
Phil takes the younger boy in his arms, hugging him as close as he can with Dan's sharp shoulder digging into his sternum. Dan turns his body and drops the box, quickly wrapping his arms around Phil's waist, gripping his shirt tightly. He nestles his forehead in the nape of Phil's neck. He makes wet choking noises as he attempts to gasp for air, body shaking with the force of his sadness.

Later in the week, they stand at the counter of a donation shop with their little basket of things, filling out unexpected paperwork.
"Why do we have to fill these out for each item? Like, fuck, this was hard enough having to give these things away to begin with, now we have to-to answer whether these things have been used or n-not?" Dan starts shaking, and he presses his palms to his eyes so he doesn't start crying in the middle of the store.
"I don't know, Bear. I understand if you can't do this anymore, we can-"
"N-no, I can do it," he says, picking up a small box and looking at its contents one last time before closing it for good.
His hand shakes as he writes:
Item: Baby socks, 0-1 month
Colour(s)/Pattern(s): Blue, White, white/blue with ducks, brown with bear faces.
Dan has to stop to take a deep breath, looking up and blinking rapidly so no tears fall. He hates that the shop keepers are making him go through this. He doesn't want to think about what these little pieces of fabric were supposed to be worn by. He doesn't want to think about how they should've been outgrown by now, anyway, and in a different life would probably be saving them for next time. He doesn't want to think about how his answer to the next question gives away the reason he's giving them to the shop in the first place.
Quality: New; never worn.
