JAY, chapter 5

HE LOOKED AROUND THE SHOP. Everything seemed so known to him, Jafar hadn't changed a single thing since he left. The shelves were still full with stolen things, although Jay couldn't understand who was stealing for his dad.
More importantly, he couldn't see Lonnie. Anywhere. He checked behind the shelves, under the tables, in the wardrobes... nothing. Jay started to get really worried. He didn't know what was his father gonna do to Lonnie.

"Lookin' for something?" He heard. Jay turned his head to see his father: one and only Jafar. He had this evil smirk on his face, clearly admitting that he was the one who kidnapped Lonnie. Jafar looked down at his hand, covered with golden bracelets and rings.

"Dad..." Jay started but was cut off by Jafar's yelling.

"You betrayed me!" He exclaimed. "I counted on you and you turned your back on me. On your father!"
Jafar was standing next to the door, then he slowly walked closer to Jay. He leaned on one of the shelves and glared at Jay. "You're a disgrace to our family."

"Family? You call this-" Jay motioned to him and Jafar. "-a Family?" Jay raised his voice. "Dad, we never had a normal dinner, you treated me like I was nothing to you. We were everything but family."

"Those Auradonian's messed with your head?! Look what they did to you... you're... you're worried about some girl?" Jafar spat. "Since when do you care about all the girls that go crazy over you? Since when do you care about anything at all?"

"Since I left this place." Jay replied quickly, with disgust in his voice. "Since I learnt what 'family' is."

"How do you dare?!" Jafar screamed. "I raised you! I fed you! I looked after you! And what do you do? Stab me in the back?! Good job, son." He sarcastically said.

"Enough with your whining." Jay stroke back. "Where's Lonnie?"

"Who's Lonnie? Oh? That girl?" Jafar rhetorically asked. "She'll be with me for a little while, you'll eventually get her back when you do a little something for me."

"I won't do anything for you. I stopped stealing for you when I left for Auradon." Jay stated.

Jafar fake pouted. "Oh... your girl will be disappointed."

"She's not my girl!" Jay corrected his father with anger, fire in his eyes. "If you harm her in any way, I promise I'll-"

"Calm down, son." Jafar teased. "I don't care about her at all. I just need you to do something for me."

Jay didn't trust his father, he knew that even if he did what his father asked, he still wouldn't get Lonnie back. Because Jafar was well known for lying, betraying, manipulating. Jay knew that as long as Jafar had Lonnie, he'd be able to use him as he wanted. "What is it?"

Jafar smirked. "Now we're talking the same language." He coughed to clear his throat. "I need my Snake Staff."

Jay's eyes widened for a moment. He couldn't believe his ears. "No. Not until I see Lonnie."

Jafar frowned, obviously bothered by his son's terrible behaviour. He raised his eyebrows and went upstairs. Jay didn't trust him at all, but something made him sad. Probably the feeling that they will never have a family. Jay wouldn't say it out loud, but he wished his father was different. Jafar came back with Lonnie next to him, with her hands tied behind her back and her mouth taped with a tape.
Her eyes were watered and Jay could feel she was apologising to him, for failing. He wished he could hug her and tell her that everything was gonna be okay.
"See? She's perfectly fine." Jafar assured and let Lonnie get closer to Jay.

"I need to talk to her." Jay stated. Jafar raised his eyebrows. "Please, dad..."

"Okay." Jafar murmured. "A minute."

Jay nodded and took the tape off Lonnie's face.

"Jay, I'm so sorry.. I failed you, you were right, I shouldn't have-" Lonnie started talking but was cut off by Jay.

"It's okay." Jay said. Lonnie seemed devastated. "Everything's gonna be okay, I'll handle it." He assured her. Lonnie nodded, more to herself than to Jay.

"I let you down... I'm so sorry." Lonnie wouldn't stop apologising to Jay. "Now you're forced to do something for Jafar..."

"Don't worry about it." Jay told Lonnie and wiped the tear away from her face.

"Jay, that guys from earlier, they're helping your father." Lonnie whispered.

"Hedda, Seth and Max?" Jay gasped.

"Yeah, they captured me, it was three against one I couldn't stand against them.." Lonnie defended herself.

"Don't worry. Calm down, Lonnie." Jay murmured and pulled a piece of her hair behind her ear. "I'll figure something out."

Lonnie nodded. Jay smiled to her and she tried to do the same but she couldn't help but feel guilty.

"Time's out!" Jafar chimed in and took Lonnie away from Jay. "You know what to do, my boy."

Jay looked at Jafar, then at Lonnie. He thought he didn't want to fail her.. but then he realised that what he really wanted was to not lose her.
Jay left his fathers shop and went to his flat. He quickly thew a rock at the sign and went upstairs. He grabbed his phone and called Carlos. The boy quickly answered.

"Jay! Buddy, where have you been? Are you okay?" He asked through the phone, Jay could also hear Dude's voice, but he couldn't get what he was saying.

"Actually, I'm okay. Lonnie - isn't." Jay explained. "My father has her, he wants me to bring his Snake Staff to him."

"Seriously?" Carlos asked in disbelief. "What are you gonna do?"

"I can't leave Lonnie to die." Jay said loudly. "I can't give him his wand either."

"I don't think the 3D printer thing is gonna work again, even if so, it would take days to print out a wand that big and long." Carlos murmured more to hisself than to Jay.

"I know, man, what do I do?" Jay questioned. "Lonnie is so innocent, she won't hold for long in my father's hands."

"Jay? Have you seen my mother?" Carlos asked suddenly, out of the blue.

"No." Jay answered.

"If you do... tell her that.. um.. Carlos said hi." Carlos said and coughed.

Jay felt bad for his friend. He felt bad for all of them. They could've had normal lives, with loving parents but they didn't. Of course, in some way Carlos missed his mother. Jay knew that Carlos would never want to get his old life back, but he understood that he still felt bad for his mother.
Jay felt the same, he wished his father was different. Loving, caring father.

"Okay, Carlos... I'll call you later." Jay murmured and hung up.

He laid back on his bed, just thinking.. thinking.. and thinking..
