JAY, chapter 14

JAY WOKE UP FEELING terrible, he couldn't get out from the bed. He was sick. It was too early to wake anyone up, but he was sure he had the temperature. Jay wanted to go get water, but when he got up from the bed, he felt lightheaded and laid back.

"Dude, you alright?" Carlos' raspy morning voice was heard.

"I think I'm ill." Jay said and coughed.

Carlos immediately sat up and checked on him. "Fever?"

"Definitely." Jay murmured and closed his eyes. "Ugh, this is not the right time!"

"When's the right time for sickness?" Carlos questioned, kind of trailing off from the point.

"When you don't have to save the world from your own father." Jay spat and brought his hand to his forehead.

"I'll go get someone to help you." Carlos shook his head, to free himself from any useless thoughts and got dressed. "Wait here."

"Where to could I possibly go?" Jay sarcastically replied and caused Carlos to chuckle.

Jay closed his eyes. After ten minutes (for Jay it felt like ten seconds), Carlos came back with Fairy Godmother. She seemed very worried about Jay's health. "Oh, dear! How are you feeling?"

"Sick." Jay replied shortly. Feeling better with his eyes closed.

"You won't be able to attend school today!" FG exclaimed and caused Jay to smile.

"Really?" He forced himself to say.

"Glad to see temperature doesn't affect your sarcasm." FG muttered to herself and ran out of the room.

Carlos' stare followed her till she was out of the sight. Then he looked back at Jay. "Well, I've got to go." He sighed. "I wish I could stay? Maybe I can ask someone?"

"No!" Jay said quietly. "I'm fine, no need to bother anyone."

"You can't even keep your eyes open." Carlos stated and grabbed his backpack. "Hang on there, bro."

Jay tried to nod but was too tired to do so. He snuggled in his blanket and turned to his side. The door opened again.

"Carlos, I said! I'm fine!" Jay said without turning to see If it was actually him.

"I know, I just wanted to see what were you doing with me gone." Carlos said and followed with a chuckle.

"Get out. You're gonna be late." Jay replied and motioned to the door.

"Fine dad!" Carlos yelled excitedly and ran away.

"I'll get you when I'm better." Jay said as loudly as he could.

He put on his beanie hat on and closed his eyes to sleep. Minutes passed and the door opened again.

"Carlos, If you come back one more time, I'll-" Jay was cut off by a female voice.

"It's not Carlos, It's me." Jay turned around to see Lonnie standing before his bed. She smiled shyly and waved softly. "I heard you were ill, wanted to check on you."

"Well I'm perfectly fine, thank you for stopping by." Jay muttered sarcastically and forced a smile.

"It sure doesn't look like that." Lonnie pointed out and rolled her eyes.

"I'm fine, really, you can go." Jay assured and sat up on his bed.

Boy was hoping that she would stay, but at the same time, he didn't know what was gonna happen If she stayed.

"Actually, I have my permission from Fairy Godmother to stay for the whole day and look after you." Lonnie whispered and crossed her arms in front of her chest.

"Really? I'm stuck with you?" Jay whined and threw his head back.

"Better than with Audrey, or is it?" Lonnie questioned.

"No, I mean, yes. You being here is better than Audrey. In fact, anything is better than Audrey." Jay joked and caused Lonnie to giggle.

Her giggle, that he enjoyed very much, made him stare at her. He never noticed it, until Lonnie herself pointed it out. "What?" She quietly asked.

"What? What... Ha?" Jay shook his head, he was confused because of not remembering past seconds.

"Why are you staring at me?" She explained.

"I'm not." Jay stated and laid back in his bed.

Lonnie raised her brows and stepped closer to Jay's bed. "What do you wanna do today?" She questioned and looked around the room.

"Hope that my father doesn't decide to take over the world just today?" Jay muttered, his statement sounded more like a question to himself.

"Want a cup of tea?" Lonnie asked.

"No."

"Anything to eat?"

"No."

"More blankets?"

"No."

"Wanna read something?"

"What? No."

"Ugh! Then what do you wanna do?" Lonnie whined and threw her hands in the air.

"Nothing, just sit here-" He patted the place on his bed next to him. "-and make sure I'm fine and well." He smiled, from ear to ear.

"Whatever..." Lonnie blurted out and sat on his bed.

Jay turned on his side, to face her and closed his eyes. Lonnie stared at him, she was amazed by his calm features, he was like an innocent tiny child that fell asleep after a long day of playing in the sand. She smiled to herself.

"Why are you staring?" Jay whispered. Not opening his eyes, smile spreading across his face.

"I'm not." Lonnie replied, her voice barely above a whisper.

Jay made a 'mhm' sound and nodded. Then slid his hand and intertwined his fingers with Lonnie's. At first the girl was surprised, but then squeezed the boy's hand and gently rubbed her thumb across his soft skin.

In that second everything felt normal, calm, good. But suddenly, a sound of a crash was heard, that caused Jay to jolt up and Lonnie to jump up and look through the window. Her face changed.

"Remember when you told me that you were hoping your father wasn't gonna take on the world just today?" Lonnie asked and looked over at Jay. The boy nodded. "Well, hope is just a four letter word."
