I put the last shirt into the washing machine and pressed start, walking out of the room. Finally, I can relax.
"Momma!" Eleanor called.
I met her in the living room.
"What's wrong baby?" I asked. She looks worried.
"I can't find Buck." She frowned.
I wandered around the house, calling Buckley. I decided he was probably outside, so El and I walked out.
We walked down the street, and she called for her beloved dog.
"There he is!" I said, pointing out the black dog, who was currently playing with a stranger.
I took El's hand and we walked across the street to the stranger.
As soon as Buckley saw Eleanor, he came running.
"He yours?" The stranger asked.
"Yeah!" Eleanor said enthusiastically.
The man chuckled and turned to me.
"Thanks for keeping him safe." I smiled genuinely.
"No problem," he grinned back.
"What's your name?" He asked, kneeling down to Eleanor's height."I'm Eleanor." She introduced herself happily. She was a very outgoing girl.
"I'm Stone." He told her. She giggled at his name.
"Pretty weird name huh?" He played along.
"Hey, do I know you?" He asked me. I was frozen, my face probably pale.
"I don't think so," I shook my head.
"Huh. Oh well. You look like a girl I used to know." He shrugged.
"Sorry to say I don't know anyone called Stone." I joked.
"Ah its cool. I better get going. Nice meeting you Eleanor." He said.
"Bye Stone." She replied, hugging Buckley.
Stone nodded to me and turned to leave.
I took El's hand and she held Buckley by his collar as we casually walked home as if I hadn't just seen my best friend from 5 years ago.Once we were back, I locked the door and sat down, watching MTV. Pearl Jam was on a lot. It was crazy to think how close he and I used to be.
The phone rang as soon as I shut my eyes. I groaned and sat up. I quickly went to the phone and picked it up since Eleanor had just fallen asleep as well.
"Hello?"
"Hi Vick."
I smiled hearing Chris' voice.
"What's up?" He asked.
"Nothing. We had to chase Buckley, and now El is sleeping." I said.
"Well that's always fun."
"While I'm still on the topic, do you know a good place El and I could move to before she starts school?" I asked.
"Yeah, to my house." He laughed. He'd been saying that forever.
"Chris cmon. You've got your own little family now. You have enough to worry about."
It was true. He had a wife and a daughter now, his daughter was the same age as El.
"And so do you. I promise Susan doesn't mind."
"I'm sure she does. Its okay Chris." I said.
"Speaking of little Eleanor, when are you gonna tell Eddie?" He teased.
"Never."
"He deserves to know."
I groaned and Chris laughed.
"Okay got it, not right now. Anyway, you're moving with us and that's final." Chris said.
"We have a dog, we can't." I insisted.
"No its cool, Lily loves dogs!" Chris said.
"I hate you. Fine.." I agreed.
"Love you too my sweet Vicky. Tell Eleanor I love her as well. Bye."
"Bye Chrispy.""Eleanor," I called her.
"Hm?" She said, still tired.
"We're gonna move in with Uncle Chris in about a week, okay?" I told her.
"Okay momma." She said sleepily.
"And he said he loves you."
"I love him too." She mumbled quietly.
"You can go back to sleep now El." I laughed lightly.
She nodded and went back to her room.Things are starting to look up.
