Nothing as it Seems

"Mommy! Come look at the bird!" Eleanor pleaded for the millionth time.
"One minute honey." I sighed, putting the pen down.
She came running around the corner, grabbed my hand and led me to the window where a pigeon was perched on the sill, capturing the 5 year olds attention.
"That's really cool El." I said happily.
Thank god she looked like her father. She was a beautiful little girl.
Light brown wavy hair, blue eyes and the same stunning smile that made her cheek bones poke out.

It was currently July of 1996, El had just turned 5 in May, while I turned 29 in June.
Eddie is 31 if I remember correctly.
Eleanor had to go to school this year, which she was ecstatic about. Poor girl had no clue who her dad was, and the only person she ever called dad in her life was Kurt Cobain, who died 2 years ago.

I guess I should back track and explain everything that happened in 5 years.
Tour ended and Eddie got me knocked up-clearly- I got scared and ran. I haven't seen him since. I stayed with Kurt, who I'd since befriended.
They were wonderful, let us stay for 3 years. Dave even got Eleanor a French Bulldog, who she named Buckley. Would've been longer if Kurt hadn't died. When he passed I didn't want to explain to El that her "dad" was gone, so we left for LA. We've been here for 2 years, living in an apartment. I work for the newspaper, I just write some articles, nothing too hard. Allows me to stay home with El while I still provide for us.

I'm worried about my decisions. I'm already regretting not sticking around with Eddie and just telling him.
I'm worried that El will hate her dad. Or me. Chris is right. I should just tell Eddie.

Anyway, I was currently looking for a new place to live before Eleanor had to start school. I didn't notice her leave the window. Must've spaced out.

I went back into the kitchen and saw her playing with Buckley on the floor.
Other than running from all my problems, I was pretty content with life, and I have a wonderful little girl to look after. Who knows where I'd be without her.
