"This is probably going to sound crazy," Carrie said, as she wipes the oily rag across the slide and housing of her old HP 35 browning pistol, "but my dad's been teaching me these sorts of things since I was 13 years old."Has it really been ten years? All of the athletic training, weapons handling and martial arts stuff it seemed liked she had always done was because of her father's influence.
"When did he tell you about, you know.... them?" Bobby asked as he cleaned the barrel of his own pistol.
Carrie took a moment and thought, "sixteen," she said with a smile, "about the same time I told him you were my boyfriend."
"Yeah I was always kind of afraid of your dad," Bobby said.
"Actually he always liked you. I think he was kind of disappointed when I dumped you the first time."
"So was I," Bobby admitted, with a shy grin. "Where do you think your dad has gone?" He asked.
"I don't know but it's not like him to be gone this long without any message at all," she said, reassembling the pistol. She did a field test, unloaded it and put it in her bag.
"Have you ever thought of getting a smaller pistol?" Bobby asked, "or maybe a permit for that one?"
"Every now and again I think of getting a smaller pistol." She admitted. "It might be easier to carry around, but I've got a nice little spot for it in this bag," she smiled. "Right next to the pepper spray, and the knife with the silver edge to it."
"And all of your make up," Bobby said with a laugh.
Carrie laughed too.
"We should get on the road if we are going to get to my sisters before night fall."
Bobby holstered the pistol in the concealed pocket of his shirt. Carrie had given him that shirt a few years ago for his birthday. It was way too big for him now, he had lost a lot of weight, but it still held up.
5.11 tactical, just like Carries dad wore.
"I'll drive first," Bobby said. "I always get turned around when we get near your sisters."
"I don't think that's by accident," Carrie said.
Carrie's sister, Crystal had worked for a few years for a specialty publisher. They were books on magic, rituals and spells, and while many people didn't give any credence to the "hocus-pocus mumbo-jumbo" there are people who don't believe in vampires either.
