Darkness fell pretty hard on the seedy end of Niagara Falls. The streetlights were a wan yellow, barely bright enough to cast more shadows into the darkness. The address was very close to the one Harry had given them, so he figured it was an escape, or a set up. Bobby was bouyed by the knowledge that he wasn't really imortant enough to warrant the idea of a trap.
How was he going to tell Mr. Crowgarden what he saw? It wasn't going to be easy, but he felt he had to. He would want Mr. Crowgarden's help explaining what he saw to Carrie and Crystal.
He stopped just past the stop sign. The neighbourhood was on the far north side, in the old silvertown area. It had become a little less seedy when they had build the arena a few blocks west, but this little stretch was on the back side of the downtown.
The city had pumped some provincial cash into it, but it only slowed it's descent into drug sales and prostitution. Bobby pulled up in front of the only house on the street that didn't have a for sale sign up in the yard. He kept the engine running. Mr.Crowgarden came around the corner and walked past the windshield. Bobby unlocked the doors.
"Hey Bobby," Corey said as he sat down in the front seat and locked the door.
"Hey Mr. Crowgarden," Bobby said.
Corey smiled, "Let's get out of here Bobby."
"Sure thing."
They turned a few corners and were on river road heading south, back towards the lights and sounds of clifton hill.
Bobby was glad to be out of that neighbourhood.
"That area never seems to get any better," Bobby said.
"And it never will," Corey said. "Too much corruption."
"You mean at City Hall?" Bobby changed gears. He had thought about going up Clifton Hill, but thought better of it. t was easier to keep heading south along the river and making the turn in Chippewa.
"You would think, but no. The magical corruption in the area. The vampires have a haven there in the old school building at the end of Leader Lane."
"Is that where you've been?"
"Yes," Corey replied. " How long was I gone?"
"A few weeks," Bobby said. "Carrie was getting worried about you."
Bobby explained all of the things that had gone sideways in the last few days. "And there's something else, but I don't know how to tell you."
"What is it?"
"Your wife, Mr.Crowgarden. She's a vampire."
"I know," Corey replied.
"You know!?" Bobby was shocked! "Why didn't you tell Carrie and Crystal?"
"What would be the point?" Corey said. "I only told Tim. We are trying to figure out a way to reverse it. It's why I haven't been to see her. I can't stand to see her like that."
"No offense, Mr. Crowgarden, but we have to tell them."
"I know we do," Corey said, "but right now we have bigger problems."
"What do you mean?"
"Well, if they had me for a month then I have no idea what kind of information I gave them or what kind of things they have programmed into my skull."
"So, what does that mean?"
"It mean's you're all in danger. They know where you all are and I've likely jeopardized the other cells in the hunt. It's given me ninety days to kill some thing that is causing it grief, but no way I'm going to do that. I'm going to spend the next eighty days trying to find their new haven and burning it to the ground."
"Will that work?" Bobby asked.
"No," Corey shook his head, "I need to find the cop that has taken the deal and sold us out."
"That's easy," Bobby replied. "Didn't they just name the arena after a retired Police chief that has enough money to build an arena?"
"Ya," Corey said.
"You don't get rich like that walking the beat," Bobby said.
"Unless you're taking a cut," Corey replied. "But I don't think we can get to him, he's pretty insulated."
"Of course he is!" Bobby said. "What else are you going to do with all that money? Would the media help?"
"I don't know," Corey replied, "They've kind of got there hand in every pie. They're corruptors, it's what they do."
"We need to find Tim next," Bobby said.
"I need a coffee and some real food first," Corey said. "That shit they were feeding me almost killed me."
