Everyone was expecting to see headlights in the driveway, so it was quite shocking when Tim walked up the basement stairs and into the kitchen. Crystal threw her arms around her tall, thin man and he kissed the tears that started to run down her cheek. Everyone was very glad to see him.
"But how...?" Bobby asked, walking back to the kitchen from his vigil at the front door.
"I made myself a trod, in case of emergency," Tim said. "So, where do we stand?"
"And you didn't tell me!?" Crystal shouted. "Does it work both ways?"
Tim looked thoughtfully, "No, not yet. I never thought of that, to be honest. I guess it would be handy.."
"You think?" Carrie said. "We wouldn't have to drive up!"
"We could visit all the time!" Crystal said.
"I think it's going to be a well worn trod," Bobby laughed.
"Nice to see you Tim," Corey said,"... can we eat now?"
It wasn't quite like the old Christmas dinners that Gran had put on but the girls scraped together a good meal.
When they were seated around the table, Corey was sitting in Grandfathers chair, with Tim on his right and Bobby on his left. The girls were in their traditional seats. The only empty chair was their grandmothers.
They all knew that the only person who could sit there was their mother.
"Do we say 'Grace'," Bobby asked and they all looked at Corey.
"Damn straight we do," Corey said. "We are in a pickle, that's for sure, but we have a lot to be thankful for.
Tim, would you do the honours?"
"Corn and grain, meat and milk,
upon my table before me.
Gifts of life, bringing sustenance and strength,
We are grateful for all we have."As they ate the group rehashed the situation each telling their piece and each one wondering what they should do, and wondering even more what Tim was going to suggest.
When Corey had finished talking about the pact with Ruby, Tim interrupted.
"Well, I guess there is one mystery I can solve. I know who Greyson is," Tim said, looking across the table at Crystal.
"I am. That's why she hasn't been able to find me. She's looking for a vampire not a necromancer."
