"I'm not looking forward to this," Corey said sitting in the passenger seat of the Ford Bronco. "No chance you made a trod to the house in Welland?"
Tim laughed from the backseat and Bobby drove and chuckled too. The sun slanted in from just over the eastern treetops. The roads were dry and pretty clear.
It looked like it would be an unseasonably nice day.
Bobby could see the stress on Coreys face. They were turning off Webber Road heading North on Pelham street. As soon as  they got into town there seemed to be traffic everywhere. "What's with all the traffic?" Bobby said.
"Corey," Tim said, "you need to relax. Your anxiety is drawing all the traffic to us."
"You're probably right," Corey replied. "I haven't been at that house in years... haven't been in Welland in years either."
"It's Welland," Bobby said."Nothing ever changes there."
"That's not true,  there's a brand new subdivision on Webber Road. " Corey said. "I picked Welland because it was too small for fangers... but it grew," Corey looked out the window at the cookie cutter townhouses. He turned to look at Tim in the backseat, "So.. Greyson; wanna tell us what that's about?"
"Well.. long story."
"Give us the coles notes version," said Bobby. "We've got a few blocks to go."
Tim thought for a moment, "It was pretty simple really. They are easy to find if you know what to look for. I got to know some of the Fangers. They're always looking for a way to screw each other over. They're so...arrogant. They think they got you because they're so old."
"Harry thought there must've been a necro on site," Corey said. "The Zeds were acting.. strange."
"Ya, they've got a tainted who is trying to learn."
"A tainted?" Corey said, shaking his head, "that never ends well."
"Why not?" Bobby asked turning down Margaret Street.
"Vampire blood is inherently magical, but... dirty," Tim said. "The more you get, the more you need. Until you need their blood more than they need yours. The end up killing you because you're a liability."
"Or trying, because a necro knows more about death than they do and he prepares himself for them to do him dirty," Corey said.
"A lich" Tim said.
Bobby parked the car.
"We're here."
It wasn't really a large house. The white stucco exterior was weather worn and the green shutters could use a new coat of paint. The flower beds in front of the old window were weedy and overgrown, but the freshly cut lawn looked great.
"Thanks for cutting the grass, Bobby," Corey said. "We should establish some RoE's."
"Some what?" Tim replied
"Rules of Engagement, " Bobby said. "Are we expecting trouble?"
"No," Corey replied, "but it's when you don't expect something when things go sideways."
They all nodded in agreement.
"We are just here to confirm what Bobby saw, " said Corey. "If it's true.. and I don't doubt what you saw Bobby, We have to be careful." He looked at the empty driveway. "Patty isn't here, but they rarely.. rest? That's not the right term but you know what I mean. They usually have a guardian, a tainted of some sort around them during the day... when they're most vulnerable. "
