Lance Fletcher was joining us. Is this a joke? I grabbed Maxx and whispered. “Are you out of your freaking mind, Godzilla? You can’t have Lance here!”

“What’s your problem? Look, he won’t do anything to you. You’ll be fine.”

“Wha --- Maxx! Nathan has a phobia to guys with slightly brunette hair and newsflash, Lance has the doo!”

Lance was already on his way to the sofa where Nathan was. Maxx and I panicked but couldn’t do anything.

“Kid. I’ll sit beside you. That okay?”

“Uh huh! You know Zorro too?”

“Uhh sure. Does his sword go slash and his guns go patchu patchu.” Lance acted like he had guns. They were talking to each other. Nathan wasn’t afraid at all.

                “What… was… that…” I was speechless.

“I’m guessing his phobia is gone.” Maxx was still at shock. Lance turned around and said “Are you guys watching or not?”

“Yeah! Maxx bring the food.” I passed him the bowl of popcorn. “Wh—.“ Code: Visitor rule. You host, you do the accommodations~. Maxx kept pinching me and napping on my shoulder during the movie. Good thing the Zorro fanatics were concentrating.

It’s the normal Maxx, I know. I missed him this way. We’re even doing the routine; he acts ‘normal’, I pull his hair. Ain’t I sweet?

The movie ended and it was time for us to go home. “Oh, before I forget. Here’s the blueprints I made for the design.”

“Hmmm, let’s make it smaller. The turbine would go faster that way.”

“You do that. By the way, you’re carrying Nathan tonight.”

“Huh? But I can’t tonight.” Maxx resisted. “What do you mean you can’t? You never said you can’t!”

“But I promised Natalie that I’ll pick her up at the station.”

“Natalie? Natalie Greystone? I thought she left you!”

“Did. Can’t you see, Al? She really does love me. Aren’t you a bit happy for me? As my friend?” he held my shoulder. I was filled with anger. I couldn’t take it.

                                “Go suck ---“

“Go ahead, Maxx. I’ll send them off.” Lance butted in. “Thanks.” Maxx then looked at me straight in the eye and said. “I’m really sorry.”

                I couldn’t.

“So you decided to use to cold treatment. Very mature, don’t you think?”

“How else am I to react? He technically lied to all of us.”

“He didn’t think you’d want to know.”

“But we’re best friends! No secrets!”

“Ha. Pathetic.” Lance scoffed. “What’s with that attitude? You shouldn’t be a jerk at this time.”

“I’m not being a jerk, you’re just being a brat.”

“What?” I got pissed and stopped. “Look around puff-face. Everything is steaming up. Can’t you just understand your friend? Best friend? Or boyfriend or whatsoever.”

                                “He’s not my boyfriend!”

“Well you sure act like you are!” I couldn’t speak. I was tearing up. He sighed. “Not everything goes the way you plan. Everyone has their own world but not all could be part of it. I know he’s special but have you ever thought what he might have felt when you left him? He’s just as hurt as you are right now. He needed someone to fill that emptiness. You’re lucky you two are still friends. There is still that pain but it would go away. Keep the happy moments and leave it at that. People learn to move on, one step at a time. Don’t force it.”

Lance was right. I wasn’t moving on. I was waiting for something to happen that already ended.

“Achi, are you crying?” Nathan woke up.

“Hey kid. Why don’t you transfer on my back.”

“Okay! Achi, I order you to tell me when we get home.” I stifled. “Yes sir!”

Nathan tried making me laugh until the end. He got me laughing alright, and so did Lance. Honestly, I felt better than just fine. Arriving home, Nathan jumped into my parents’ arms and Mom and Dad, I dare to say, were terrified about Lance. I explained everything and they thanked Lance for sending us safely. Lance went back.

I went to my room and took out one of my blank canvas and my art materials. I painted what I felt; as if being with calm and steady winds in the twilight heavens. By the end of my painting, all I could think of is how much Lance has helped me even in my most stubborn moments. I unexpectedly gave off a smile.

And there, I made my first masterpiece.
